Entered service in December, 1916, in Amherst- burg, Ontario, Canada. Received training at London, Ontario. Sailed overseas March 27, 1917. Acted as stretcher bearer at the battle of Vimy Ridge. Was shell shocked and sent to base hospital in England. Returned to active service in January, 1918, and had recurrence of shell shock. Sent back to England and later placed on duty at the dispensary of the Officers' Hospital, London, England. Not discharged at time of writing.

Was wounded in the St. Mihiel drive, and was in hospital when the Armis- tice was signed. Discharged September 27, 1919, at Camp Grant, Ill.

Received his training at Great Lakes Naval Station and at the U. S. Navy Yards, Charleston, S. C. Was assigned to service on the U. S. S. Hartford, and was aboard this ship when the Armistice was signed. Discharged Febru- ary 15, 1918, at Charleston, S. C.


CHARLES R. BEAN


Private, Headquarters Company, 124th Field Artillery, Thirty-third Divis- ion, U. S. A. Son of Leo and Julia A. Bean, 1609 South Eighth street, Springfield. Born December 10, 1899, in Lanesville. Entered service June 15, 1917. Received his training at Camp Logan, Houston, Texas. Sailed overseas May 27, 1918, on the Mt. Vernon. In action in the St. Mihiel drive and the Argonne Forest. Was taken ill while on the west bank of the Meuse River and was in hospital at the time Armistice was signed. Discharged June 8, 1919, at Camp Grant, Ill.

Entered the service June 26, 1919, in Springfield. Received his training at Camp Taylor and Camp Stanley, Texas. Was at Camp Stanley when the Armistice was signed. . Discharged February 7, 1919, at Camp Grant, Ill.

Was in Apre- mont in the Argonne, when the Armistice was signed. Discharged June 2, 1919, at Camp Grant, Ill.

In action in the Meuse-Argonne Offensive when the Armistice was signed. Discharged May 28, 1919, at Camp Grant, Ill.


CLARENCE O. BECKER


Sergeant, Company C, 124th Machine Gun Battalion, Thirty-third Divis- ion, U. S. A. Son of Mr. and Mrs. Oscar A. Becker, 216 South Spring street, Springfield. Born June 4, 1899. Entered service April 13, 1917. Received training at Camp Lowden, Ill., and Camp Logan, Texas. Sailed overseas in May, 1918. On arrival in France was detailed on special supply work with Division Headquarters, and November 1, 1918, was transferred as Sergeant in charge of Subsistence Office, Thirty-third Division. Dis- charged May 30, 1919, at Camp Grant, Ill.


CARL BEECHLER


Private, Company B, Mechanical Division, U. S. A. Son of Louis and Anna Beechler, 328 Lincoln avenue, Springfield. Born July 31, 1897, in Springfield. Entered service October 14, 1918. Received his training at Camp Bradley, Peoria, III. Was at Camp Bradley when the Armistice was signed. Discharged December 15, 1918, at Camp Bradley.

Entered service with old Fifth Infantry, and called into active service March 26, 1917. Received his training at Camp Lowden, Springfield, and Camp Logan, Houston, Texas. Sailed overseas in May, 1918, on the U. S. S. Mt. Vernon. In action in the Meuse-Argonne, St. Mihiel, the last Verdun battle, and Forges Wood. Was in hospital when the Armistice was signed. Dis- charged May 30, 1919, at Camp Grant.
