LEON M. BEILAN

Was there when the Armistice was signed. Later, when the government called for 3,000 American doctors for service in Russia, Captain Beilan was the first one accepted. Sailed overseas February 15, 1919. Placed in charge of Amer- ican Field Hospital No. 4, near Vladivostok, Russia.


OSCAR D. BEITEL


Corporal, Infantry and Motor Supply Train, U. S. A. Son of Mr. and Mrs. E. W. Beitel, 922 South Ninth street, Springfield. Born August 14, 1894, in Oskaloosa, Iowa. Entered the service August 2, 1918, in Springfield. Received his training at Camp McArthur, Texas, and Malacoone, France. Sailed overseas September 26, 1918. HENRY P. BITSCHENAUER


Baker, First Class, United States Navy. Son of Mr. and Mrs. Paul Bitschenauer, 1403 East Cook street, Springfield. Born January 25, 1898. Entered service February 8, 1917, in Peoria. Received his training at Great Lakes Naval Station. Sailed overseas for the first time in January, 1918. Made six trips across and was then stationed at Boston, doing duty at Receiving Ship. March 1, 1919, was promoted to Baker, First Class, and transferred to U. S. S. Kentucky, and is cruising with that ship at the present time. Not discharged at time of writing.

Received his training at Great Lakes Naval Station and Norfolk, Va. Qualified as apprentice machinist and sent to U. S. Naval Air Station at Pensacola, Fla. Was there when the Armistice was signed. Discharged July 14, 1919, at Pensacola, Fla.


WILLARD R. BLACK


Machinists' Mate, Second Class, United States Navy. Son of Mr. and Mrs. Robert S. Black, 1407 East Monroe street, Springfield. Born October 11, 1896. Entered the service December 3, 1917. Received his training at Norfolk, Virginia, and at the Submarine Base, New London, Conn. While serving on Submarine D-4, at the latter place, he was sent to the hospital for an operation, and while there it was discovered he had Mitral murmuring heart, caused from being overcome by the gases while submerging. Discharged August 18, 1918, in New London, Conn.

Entered service February 7, 1917, in Springfield. Received his training at Ft. Sam Hous- ton, Texas. Sailed overseas July 15, 1918, on the Northern Pacific. Was stationed in Overhall Park No. 2, Paris, France. Served as convoy leader, on motorcycle, for ammunition trains, from Paris to Chateau Thierry, during July and August, 1918. Was in Foucourt, France, when the Armistice was signed. Discharged July 16, 1919, at Camp Merritt, N. J., and re-enlisted in Motor Transport Corps the same day.

Served with the Army of Occupation. Discharged October 2, 1919, at Camp Dix, N. J.

Present address, 855 South Illinois street, Springfield. Entered the service May 15, 1917, in Kentucky. Received his training at Fort Benjamin Harrison, Camp Taylor and Camp Sherman. Sailed overseas September 2, 1918, on the Acquatania. Was in the 84th Division, Penigeaux, France, and LeMans, France, Toul, France, and with the Army of Occupation in Germany. Was in LeMans, France, when the Armistice was signed. Discharged August 30, 1919, at Camp Grant, Ill.


HENRY A. BLAND


Private, Battery A, 8th Field Artillery, U. S. A. Son of James F. and Union G. Bland, 1001 South Ninth street, Springfield. Born May 25, 1892, in Fairfield, Illinois. Entered service April 25, 1917, in Spring- field. Received his training at Camp Sparta, Wisconsin, Fort Monroe, Virginia, Camp Wheeler, Macon, Georgia. Sailed overseas September, 1918. In active service. Was in France when the Armistice was signed. Discharged June 30, 1919, at Camp Grant, Ill.


WALKSY H. BLAND


Private, 156th Infantry, Seventeenth Division, U. S. A. Son of James F. and Union G. Bland, Little Rock, Arkansas. Born February 3, 1896, in Fairfield, Illinois. Entered the service October, 1918. Received his training at Camp Beauregard, Louisiana. Was at Camp Beauregard when the Armistice was signed and received his discharge there April 1, 1919.

RUPERT BLEDSOE


Chief Mechanic, 108th Battery, French Artillery, 33rd Division, U. S. A. Son of Mary and Charles Bledsoe, 2014 East Washington street, Spring- field. Born April 25, 1895. Entered service July 9, 1917. Received his training at Camp Logan, Houston, Texas. Sailed overseas May 7, 1918. Was in action in the St. Mihiel Drive and the Meuse-Argonne. Discharged March 31, 1919.


THOMAS L. BLEICH


Seaman, Second Class, United States Navy. Son of Mr. and Mrs. M. Bleich, 3062 Thomas street, St. Louis, Missouri. Born February 3, 1886, in Austria Hungary. Was at Great Lakes when the Armistice was signed. Released from active service February 19, 1919, at Great Lakes.


NED T. BLOCK


Sergeant, Company C, 124th Machine Gun Battalion, Thirty-third Division, U. S. A. Born August 9, 1884, in Bowling Green, Missouri. Address, 709 South State street, Springfield. Entered service July 1, 1916, in Company L, Third Illinois Infantry, for service in Mexico. Returning from Mexican border, he re-enlisted in Company C, Fifth Illinois In- fantry, which became Company C, 124th Machine Gun Battalion, Thirty- third Division. Received his training at Camp Logan, Texas. Sailed overseas May 16, 1918, on the Mt. Vernon. In action in the Somme offensive, Verdun, Meuse-Argonne, Butgneville, Troyon Sector. Dis- charged June, 1919, at Camp Grant, Illinois.
