As- signed to the U. S. S. Monna Hata, sailing overseas March 15, 1918. Stationed with First Salvage Division, at Brest, France. Was at Brest. France, when the Armistice was signed. Discharged November 8, 1919, at Bay Ridge, N. Y.


EDWARD JAMES SHEA


Machinist, First Class, United States Navy. Son of Mr. and Mrs. Michael Shea, 1818 East Capitol avenue, Springfield, Ill. Born July 6, 1892, in Springfield, Ill. Entered service May 17, 1918, in Peoria, Ill. Received his training at Great Lakes Naval Training Station, Philadelphia, Pa., and New York. Served nine months on board the U. S. S. Buford, doing Sub- marine Patrol duty. Was in Brest, France, when the Armistice was signed. Discharged March 14, 1919, at Newport News, Va.

Major, Field Artillery, U. S. A. Son of Mrs. Frank Shontz, 801 East Reynolds street, Springfield, Ill. Born January 21, 1883, in Springfield, Ill. Address, 626 South Walnut street, Springfield, Ill. Prior to World War served in Regular U. S. Army and Illinois National Guard from January 21, 1901 until July, 1917, at which time he held the rank of First Lieutenant in Troop D, First Illinois Cavalry. Called into Federal service July 25, 1917. Served at Camp Lowden and Camp Logan, Houston, Tex., with organization which became Battery A, 124th Field Artillery, Thirty-third Division. Remained with 124th Field Artillery, in command of different Batteries. Promoted to rank of Captain in No- vember, 1917. Sailed overseas June 11, 1918. Attended School of Artil- lery Fire at La Valdahon, France. Returned to United States to join new divisions. Served with 38th Field Artillery at Camp Lewis, Wash. and at Central Officers' Training School at Camp Taylor, Ky. Was at Camp Lewis when the Armistice was signed. Discharged October 30. 1919, at Camp Taylor, Ky.
