Is located on the Yamhill river, six miles abovo its mouth, and is distant from Portland via Willamette 50 miles. It is also a station on the Oregon Central Railroad, has a population of 300 and is the county seat. The country surrounding the place is fertile, and the people are enterprising and in- telligent. It has a weekly newspaper and contains aome very pleasant homes, the residence and grounds of A R Bur- bank, Esq., being a two-story frame and is the chief feature of the place on ac- count of its beauty. The society is good and the place prosperous. It is quite a shipping point.

Is situated in the Grande Ronde Valley on the river of that name, 90 miles from Umatilla, on the Columbia. Oregon City is the county seat, and contains about 1,500 inhabitants It is situated on the Willamette river and O. & C. R. R., 12 miles south of Portland The falls of the Willamette at this point afford the best water power in the United States, being equaled only by that of the St. Anthony in Minnesota. Vessels can load here for San Francisco direct. Among the most important mills at this place is a large woolen mill, which gives employment to abont 100 persons. It also contains a number of saw and flour- ing mills. All kinds of business is well represented.
