Bingham, SALT LAKE COUNTY,

Is the terminus of Bingham Canyon and Camp Floyd Railroad, 28 miles from Salt Lake City in a southwesterly direction. The title of "Old Reliable" has certainly not been misapplied, for despite the rav- ages . of depression and drouth, almost insurmountable in their nature, in the gravel, making the ground most solid to very face of driving and destructive ele- ments, which questioned her right to "hold her own, " she has withstood every- thing, and is to-day one of the substan- tial mining towns of the Territory. The place depends almost solely upon the mining interests, a feature that has filled her horoscope with gleams of bright promise in the form of development, steady and permanent. There are seve- ral places of business, as well as a public hall, a church, and a school. The popu- lation is about 600 souls.

Brigham City. BOX ELDER COUNTY.

Brigham City is the county seat of Box Elder county, and is a town of 2,500 inhabitants. It is situated on the Utah & Northern and Central Pacific railroads, three miles east of Bear River, and 18 miles north of Ogden City. Its location is a beautiful one, being on a gradual in- cline, and is near the mouth of Box El- der Canyon, In its corporate capacity, Brigham City extends to the boundary line of Cache county on the east, and takes in a most beautiful little valley surrounded with lofty mountains, and having in it a flourishing farming settle- ment called Montana, with a population of 350 souls. The town site proper of Brigham City is rocky and filled with

build on, and the streets, which run at right angles, are as solid and level as if actually paved by the hand of human in- genuity, the same having an effect to make the ground uncommonly warm, 80 that a great variety of fine fruit is rais- ed in rich abundance which, connec- ted with the vast amount of flowers and roses growing in the summer, causes the place to partially resemble the tropical regions. A money order office is connec- ted with the postoffice, and here is also an express office. There is a woolen fac- tory and tannery of considerable capac- ity, besides a number of other manufact- uring establishments, such as black smith, wagonmakers, carpenters, etc. Stock- raising and dairying are amongst the prominent interests to which the place looks for support.

Ephraim, SAN PETE COUNTY,

Has a population of nearly 2,000, and is one of the wealthiest towns in the county. The place is only a short dis- tance from Manti and is consequently not beyond the limits of the rich agri- cultural district which has given that section such a notoriety for its heavy yields of fruits, berries, vegetables and grain. No community is more thrifty, and the presence of several handsome buildings indicates a disposition to im- prove the city that is deserving of ap- plause.
