This pleasant agricultural town and summer resort is situated just south of Half Moon Bay, 38 miles from San Fran- cisco, by coast line, and 38 miles from Santa Cruz. It is approached on either side by stages which connect with the several railroad systems at Santa Cruz, and with the S. P. R. R. at San Mateo. Through fare from Santa Cruz to San Francisco, via Pescadero and Half Moon Bay, $5. The delightful situation of Pescadero and its eqnable climate makes the place popular, and those who go there to spend a few days seldom go away again as soon as they originally intended. The Swanton House, sugges- tive of the finest Eastern resorts in its splendid accommodations, ranks with them in all particulars. The house stands in the center of the little town, and is surrounded by tastefully-arranged grounds and detached cottages, intended for the accommodation of families. The main building contains .well-aircd and lighted rooms, parlors, closets and every convenience that a consideration of the comfort of guests can suggest.

Is situated on San Pablo Bay, distant 42 miles from San Francisco, and is reached by steamer and rail in two and one-half hours from there. The country round about makes this its market for all kinds of dairy produce, and it certainly can lay good claim as one of the chief entrepots for butter, cheese, poultry, eggs, etc. Having the advantage of lo- cation at the very head of navigation, and surrounded as it is with a country so rich in these products, it soon took the load which it now holds, and is at this day one of the most flourishing of the inland towns of California. The city is excellently laid out. the streets are well graded, and its citizens have shown very good taste in the location of their residences. The drainage and sewerage are as nearly perfect as pos- sible. The public school and church facilities are ample for the inhabitants, in fact, the city has long been. a model in this respect. There are at present in

operation two Mutual Beneficont Asso- ciations, well known throughout the entire coast. Its population is placed at 5,000, and is increasing steadily.
