Is a well-built city of 7,000 inhabitants, situated at the junction of the Yuba and Feather rivers and is also on the line of the Oregon Division of the Central Pa- cific R. R., 42 miles from Sacramento. It is surrounded by a very fertile and pro- ductive agricultural district from the cultivation of which it derives its prin- cipal support, though in its earlier his- tory ita dependence was wholly on the placer diggings. It is the county seat, has several beautiful business blocks, el- gant churches and school houses. Its residents are enterprising and hospitable and show a pride in their little city that speaks well for their loyalty to its inter- ests. The future prosperity of the place is regarded as certain; though the debris from the mines in Nevada county is con- stantly filling up the rivers, and unless Government or State aid is secured for its removal it may offer a serious obsta- cle to her growth. We hope that such means of escape from the distress of a failure to remove the barrier may be se- cured very soon.
