The town is pleasantly situated, hav- ing ample drainage by the creok that passes through the entire length, thus making it exceedingly healthful. Water is supplied by a splendid system of water works, and the streets and buildings are lighted with gas. The first settlement was made in 1772, when the old mission church, which still stands, was built. The county Court House was erected in 1874 at a cost of $50,000. On the out- skirts of the town is a county hospital, built at a cost of $10,000. The City Hall, built in 1878, cost $8,000. Besides the
