broad and smooth, running at , right angles, and the places of religious wor- ship are numerous, while the eye fre- quently comes in contact with pretty school-houses, handsome residences and elegant places of business. Salt Lake City must look to her laurels, else her enterprising sister will outreach her in the grasp for metropolitan honors. The residents are energetic and public-spirited and so far as morality is concerned, we opine that her condition is truly flatter- ing, though it is hinted that, at one time, it " could be improved upon." The hotels of the city are good, and no trav- eler could consistently find fault with the treatment he receives while under the care of Mr. M. H. Beardsley, of the Beardsley Hotel, or of A. K. Zeigler, of the Keeney House and the Commercial Hotel. He is an experienced, trust- worthy and genial gentleman, and no branch of business is represented by a better man. The newspapers of the place evince an enterprise in the collec- tion and selection of subject matter that is highly commendable. A morning daily and two evening papers are among the number of publications. The future of the town is really bright, and we have a confidence in her growth that, if felt by all, would no doubt insure a rapid and very permanent growth.
