R. runs from this point south to Kalama, and up the Puyallup valley to the coal fields. Ka- lama being the terminus of a transcorti- nental road, situated on deep water, neai vast coal Celda, it cannot but be a city of importance in the future. All kinds of business is represented. The head- quarters of the Western Division of the N. P. R. R. are located here. The P. S. S. N. Co.'s line of steamers between this! point, Port Townsend and way ports, furnish means of communication. Popu- lation about 500.
