Columbia, TUOLUMNE COUNTY,

Is a very pretty mountain town of 700 inhabitants, 142 miles from San Francis- co, reached via Stockton and Copperopo- lis Division of the Central Pacific Rail- road and Messrs. Mittison & Co.'s stage line. Its scenic and sanitary features are manifold, and the number of tourists and invalids drawn hither through these mediums each year is very great. The altitude is 2,200 feet above the soa level; the atinosphere is pure, light and dry, and easy of inhalation: the water is ex- cellent ; and society splendid-foreshad- owed in the refining influences of the el- ements found invariably in the presence of good schools and churches. Fruit- growing and mining are extensively eu- gaged in. The place has been destroyed by conflagrations several times, yet it presents a handsome appearance.
