Ia one of the prettiest places in the State, and has a population of nearly 4,000. It is the largest and wealthiest town in the county, and is dependent upon the agricultural, vinicultural and mining interests of the locality for its support. It is in a prosperous condition, and its outlook ia emphatically bright. It is on the line of the Oregon Division of the Central Pacific R. R., 95 miles above Sacramento. The climate is good and the society excellent. Its streets are broad and smooth, and are beauti- fully shaded with forest trees. The business houses are well and tastily built, while the private residences pre- sent a most attractive appearance. Re- ligious denominations and secret orders are all represented, and are well at- tended.
