At a Meeting of ye Selectmen at Andw. Whites Nath1 Coollidge and Daniel Whitney, Reported upon the Affair of the Widw Maddocks as follow's. They went to Mrs. Murches the 3d Inftant and found the complaint that was made to the Selectmen not to be without Grounds, at which time & place the sd. Widw. Mad- docks Applyed to them as Selectmen for relief, and Accordingly they Agreed with Mrs. Murch that while She Tarryed with her and was Supported by her She Should Receive After the Rate of Twenty five Shillings old Tenor P week from the Town till further Order to which Agreemt. the Selectmen Did Confent. And whereas the Widw. Maddocks hath been at Mrs. Murches Lately, for a confiderable time to gether, at her the sd. Murches finding both provifion and fireing for her. The Selectmen Agreed Mrs. Murch should have a Load of wood for a requital. The Selectmen alfo at sd Meeting Agreed that the Widw. Grover sld. have a Load of wood at the Coft of the Town.

Directed to the Conftables of sd Town for the Warning of a Town Meet- ing to be on the Second Day of March Next at Nine of ye Clock in the forenoon At the Publick Meeting houfe in sd. Inasmuch as it Appeared to the Town that there was An Act of this Province (wch the Town was not apprized of before) Relating to Sheep to prevent their runing at Large from the 15th. of March &c.

The Selectmen being Informed & Notifyed in Writing by Lt. Daniel Whitney that he had taken in to his Houfe the Widow Sarah Chadwick and her Daughter Submitt Chadwick who Came Laft from Waltham, and came to Watertown the 22d Day of Decem' Laft
Alfo Notified in Writing by Jonan Child that He had taken in to his houfe one Margret Wilkefon a Young woman who Came to Watertown the 23d. of Octobr. Laft paft, and She Came Laft from the Town of Wendham in Connetticut, who have no great Subftance.
The Selectmen Ordred the Clerk to Isue out Warrants directed to the Conftables of Watertown, requiring them to Warn the A above named perfons to Depart out of sd Watertown.
The Selectmen Agreed to Meet again on the 20th. of April Next at the Houfe of Thos. Saltmarfhes at three of the Clock Affernoon in Order to Adjust the Charge of ye Poor and proportion and Settle the Same with the Selectmen of Waltham thofe poor wch. they are Concerned in.
Ordred the Clerk to Send a Notification of sd. Meeting to the Selectmen of Waltham to Defire them to meet at sd. time & place on sd. Affair.
[89] At a Meeting of ye Selectmen of Watertown & Wal- tham at m' Thos: Saltmarfhes on the 20th. of April AD. 1752 Appointed for ye Adjufting of ye Accts. of the poor Maintained by sd. Town's. After Confiderable Debate abot ye Widw. Mary Maddocks it was Concluded to put off the Adjufting sd. Accts. till Some other time, & in the Mean time for ye Selectmen of Each Town to git information relating to her going out of Watertown and coming in Again &c.
The Selectmen of Watertown Agreed wth. M' Sam1. Coollidge Schoolmafter that he SId. have the Grant or Alowance the Town Made for the Support of the School for ye Year 1751. for his Service in keeping the School from the 20th. of April 1751 to the 20th of April 1752 His Board at M' Sam1. Whitneys & what sd Whitney Laid out for him, and what ye Selectmen Laid out for him the Laft Year to be Alowed and Deducted out thereof, to which the Said Coollidge Concented.
And the Said Selectmen Agreed further wth. the sd. S. Coollidge to Continue to keep the School, and he to receive as a reward for his reguler keeping sd. School after the Rate of forty Pounds P Year for the time that He shall keep ye sd. School regulerly & well, He to Board him Self or paying for his boarding. unto all which the Said Sam1 Coollidge Agreed and was Content.

In obfervance whereof Ordred the Clerk to Isue out warrants Directed to ye Several Conftables of sd Town To warn the freeholdrs. and other Inhabts. of sd Watertown who are Quallified to Vote in the Choice of a Reprefentative to Afsemble & Meet at ye publick Meeting Houfe in sd. Town on Munday the Eighteenth Day of May Cur- rant at three of ye Clock After Noone, Then and there to Elect and Depute a Meet perfon to Reprefent ye Town of Watertown at a great and Gen1 Court Appointed to be Convened held & kept at the Court houfe in Concord on Wednesday the Twenty Seventh Day of this Inftant May.
Likewife to Order the sd. Conftables to warn the freeholders and other Inhabts. of Watertown Quallified to Vote in Town Affairs, to Meet at the publick Meeting houfe in sd Town on the Eighteenth Day of this Inftant May at four of ye Clock After- noon for the Ends following vizt.
1. To know the mind of ye Town whether they will Sell that piece of Land belong to the Town Lying between ye Country Road and the Mill crick above the Corn Mill, or any part of it, and if ye Town See meet to Sell, then to chofe and Impower a Comtee : to Sell the Same, they following Such Directions as the Town shall give them refpecting the Manner of Sale and to give Lawfull Conveyances thereof in the Name & behalf of ye Town, to ye purchafers thereof.
2. In cafe the Town do not See meet to Sell the Land abovesd. then to know the mind of ye Town whether they will Leafe out sd piece of Land for Such a Term of Years as may Encourage the hireing and building thereon, and to Choofe a Comtee. to Leafe out ye same agreeable to such Directions as ye Town shall give.
3ly. Whereas there was a grant made by ye Great & Gen1. Court to Watertown off 1500 Acres of Medow wch. has not yet been Satisfied or taken up, And whereas Watertown Wefton & Wal- tham (all originally Watertown) have been at very great Cost & Charge in Building Rebuildings & repairings of ye Great Bridge over Charles River in Watertown, and ever like to be under Such hevy growing charges if Releaf cant be Some way Obtained, upon thefe Confiderations to know the mind of ye Town whether they will chofe and Impower their Representative to joine with the Representatives of Wefton & Waltham, to search the Province Records to find sd Grant, and in the Name & behalf of sd Water- town Wefton & Waltham To Petition the great & General Court for Releaf in sd. premifses, by granting to sd. Towns so much of ye unapropriated Lands belonging to the Province as they in their Wifdom Shall Judge Equivolent to said Grant of Medow, and Adiquate to the great. Burden they Lye under relating to sd Bridge, that they may be the better enabled to bear that burden,

Town on the 18th. Day of May AD. 1752. for the Choice of a Perfon to Reprefent them at a Great & General Court Appointed to be Convened held & kept for his Majestys Service at the Court Houfe in Concord on the 27th. Day of this Inftant May. the Majer part of ye Selectmen being Prefent.
