at this meeting the Selectmen haveing received an account from m' Jonas Harrington for 354 feet of plank (which he brought to the Grate Bridge in watertown) at 20/1 pr hundred which amounts to three pounds Ten Shillings & nine pence They or- dered the Clerk to write an order to the Selectmen of Weston to pay the Same


At Said Meeting Complaint being made by Several Neighbours that the wido Warrin was in Sufering Circumftances they agreed to meet again on Monday the fourteenth day of Sepr at 4 of the Clock afternoon at the wido mary Learneds to agree with Some Suitable perfon to take care of Said warrin -


At a Meeting of the Selectmen at the Houfe of the wido Mary Learned on Monday the 21 Day of Sep': 1761 the Selectmen Agreed to have a Town Meeting on Monday Next at the publick Meethoufe & Directed the Clerk to Issue out warrants to the Several Conftables to warn the Inhabitants to meet at said time & place to act on the following articles (Viz) (1) to Choofe a Moderator for Said Meeting (2) To hear the Re- port of the Committe on the affair of the Work-houfe and for the town to grant money to build Said houfe or do any thing on the affair they may think proper-(3) To know the minde of the town whether they will Choofe a Committe to Settle the bounds of the land which Nath" Harris Esq" gave to Sett the Meeting-

At a Gen" Town Meeting of the freeholders & other Inhab- itants of Watertown Quallified according to law to Vote in town affairs Regularly Afsembled & Meet at the publick Meeting Houfe in Said Town on Monday the 28 Day of Sepr. 1761 Voted and Choofe M' Sam"1 Fisk Moderator for sd Meeting- 1 Then the Second article was read & the Committe Reported that they had Drawn a Plan of a work-houfe which is thirty foot Square to be four Rooms on the lower floor with a fire place in each of them and a Gamber Roof with two fire places above the Charge of the building they are informed will be about one thoufand pounds old Tenor and after the town had Confidered and Debated the affair they purpos'd to add two more to the Committe and the Question was put whether it be the minde of the town to add two more to the Committe and it past in the affirmetive -

Then the Vote was put whether it be the minde of the town that the Committe look out further for a Suitable place whereon to build the above said work-houfe & Se what they must give for Such a peice of land, and alfo Inquire what the Charge will be if the houfe be built two Storey high more than if it be but one as above said and Report at the adjournment of this meeting & it past in ye affirmative


Then a Motion was made and the Vote was put whether it be the mind of the town that this meeting with the Remaining buifiness be Adjour'd to Monday next at two of the Clock afternoon at this place and it past in the affirmative -

The Committe appointed to repair the fence on the Minifterel place being prefent informed the town that they had not finifhed Said fence and So Did not know what the Charge would be and therefore did not Defire aney grante at this time and there being no other buifnefs the Meeting was Defolved-


N B the last Mentioned Meeting was begun on the Eighteenth Day of may 1761 and Continued by adjournments to this time


At a Meeting of the Selectmen on the 29 Day of October 1761 at the houfe of M' William Bond-


They agreed to bind a Poor Child (Called Mary Mathyrs) to Mr William Goding of Woburn and accordingly Signed the In- dentures and agreed that sd Goding Should have thirteen pounds Six Shillings and eight pence with the Child, he giveing Security to the town to Save the town from any further Cost that may arife by sd Child And ordered the Clerk to take a Bond and a Mortgage Deed on Ten acres of sd Godings Land which Lies. in Woburn for the Towns Security which was accordingly done Pr J Brown T Clerk


[216] At a Meeting of the Selectmen at the Houfe of Mr Jona Child on the 16 : Day of Nov': 1761 They ordered the Clerk to Issue out a warrant to warn the several perfons here- after mentioned to Depart out of town Viz Daniel Edds with his wife and Child who came Last from Charlstown about the month of April last & Refide at the Houfe of Jedidiah Leath & Thomas Rufsel who came vast A st from Bofton in the County of Suffolk in the month March last & Stephen Mafon who came from sd Bofton in May or June last and both Refide at the houfe of the wido Mary Learned And Richard Trufdal and his wife and four Children who came last from Newton and Refide in a Houfe that belongs to John Hunt Esq' they came into town in August last past and abiah Foster who came last from Waltham on the Second day of July last and Refides at the Houfe of Andrew White alfo Kezia Rufel who came last from Bofton in the County of Suffolk in the Month of April last to Refide at the Houfe of Samuel Nutting-


A Warrant was Issued out accordingly & given to Conftable Simon Whitney and the Service was done (Except to Kezia Rufsel who Could not be found) and the warrants Returned Cautions entered Dec' Sefsions

At a Meeting of the Selectmen at the Houfe of Capt Edward Harrington on Monday the Seventh day of Decr: 1761


They being Informed that on Katherine Draper was come to She Refide at the Houfe of Mathew Johnfon in Watertown came last from Deadham in the County of Suffolk her Circum- ftances being Such that they Refufe to admitt her to be an In- habitant of Said town Ordered the Clerk to Issue out a war- rant to warn her out of town a warrant was Issued out ac- cordingly and given to S. Whitney and the Service done & the warrant Returned and the Caution Entered at December Sessions Attest J Brown Town Clerk


[217] At Sd Meeting the Selectmen being Informed that Kezia Rufsel was Lurking about & Could not be found at prefent ordered the Clerk to give out an other warrant to Mr Simon Whitney to warn her out as Soon as She can be found which was accordingly done


They alfo Agreed that mrs Learned the wife of Jonas Learned Should Continue at m' Jonathan Child's where She now is till further orders And that the sd m' Child and m' Nathaniel Stone who are two of the Selectmen be Defired to gitt what things She has at Cambridge and bring them to m' Childs Houfe


-The Selectmen ordered the Treafurer to Call upon the per- fons, who Received thofe persons into town (that have bin warned out) emediately to pay the Charge thereof. and if any perfon or perfons Refufe or Neglect to pay the Same to Sue them emediate- ly- --


They Signed an order. on the Treafurer to pay the Committe thirteen pounds eleven Shillings for making fifty five Rods of Stone wall and for Posts on the minifteral place


At a Meeting of the Selectmen on the Eighteenth day of January 1762 at the Houfe of the wido Mary Learned -


The Select-men ware Informed that Elizabeth Warrin was in a way to Spend what Estate She had they Defired Capt Ed- ward Harrington to go & Inquire into her Circumftances and Report at the Next meeting-


Mr. Nathaniel Coollidge Jun' informed that his Uncle Samuel Coollidge was with him and wanted Some Cloathing


The Selectmen agreed that sd Nath"] Coollidge Jun' Should procure him one pair of Shoes two Shirts two pair of Stockings a Felt hat and a Hanckercheif & a wollen Cap they alfo Agreed to allow M' Coollidge 4s/8 pr week for Boarding Sd Samuel till further orders-

at this meeting they ordered the Clerk to Issue out warrants to warn Josiah Stone with abigail his wife & Four Children (Viz) Abigail Elizabeth Josiah & Rachal out of town and Jerufha Fuller who came last from Newton about September last and Jonathan Scoot who Came last from Roxbury in the County of Suffolk about September last and Sarah Kendal who Came last from Waltham about September last their Circumftances being Such that the Selectmen Refufe to Receive them to be Inhabitants N B Josiah Stone & Famaly last from Lexington in April Last -Warrants ware Issued out accordingly J Brown T C


The Selectmen Signed an order on the Treafurer to pay m" Nathaniel Stone one pound Twelve Shillings 3/1 farthing for Cloathing which the Selectmen procured for the wido Lydia Warrin


At a Meeting of the Selectmen on Fryday the 26 Day of Febry 1762 at the houfe of the wido mary Learned -


m' Samuel" Soden one of the late Surveyors of High ways Informed the Selectmen that he had worked out his Highway Rate which they Accepted-

Then the accounts of thofe perfons to whome the town is Indebted were Read to the town and accepted by the town (Ex- cept Eleven pounds Sixteen Shillings in John Hunt Esqrs and Jonas Barneds for Extraordinaries for Mary Coollidge) and the Sum Twenty pounds five Shillings & 6/3 farthings was Voted & Grated to pay the Same-
