Advanced Age, and grat Bodilie Infirmatives thought they could not take the care of her as She ought to be taken care of under Twenty fhillings Pr week old Tenor, and for that He ye sd Coollidge was willing to take her ye sd Widw. and take good Care of her a nother Year if she SId Sur- vive. In Obfervance of which Precipt, Ordred the Clerk to Ifue out Warrants Directed to the Conftables of sd Town to warn the freeholdrs. and other Inhabts. of said Town who are Quallified to Vote in the Choice of a Representative, To Afsemble at the Publick Meeting houfe in Said Town, on Munday the Sixteenth Day of May Next at Two of the Clock Afternoon, Then and there to Elect & Depute a Sutable Perfon to Serve for and Reprefent them in a Great and General Court or Afsembly Appointed to be Conven'd held and kept for his Majes. Service at the Court houfe in Bofton on Wednesday the Twenty fifth Day of May Next.

Voted forty Pounds old Tenor of Said Money to Joseph Stearns under his prefent Difficulty, (he having been preft and paid his fine) To be paid to his Brother Jofiah Starnes and to be Improved by him for the Said Joseph's Sole Ufe and benefit. Voted forty Pounds old Tener of ye Money in ye Treafurey abovesd To John Sanger who has been almost Two Years in the Countrys Service at the Eafward, to be paid to him or Order. - Voted that the Remainder in the Treafurey (wch is forty Pounds old Tener) be Appropriated to help hire men for his Majes. Service as there is Occation, and to be Drawn out of ye Treafurey by the Prefent Commifsion Officers in the Town belonging to the foot Company as there Shall be Evident Occation therefor.

The Selectmen Agreable to the truft Repofed in them Relating to the Procuring a Gentleman to keep the School in Watertown (After Several Steps taken in sd Affair) the Selectmen having now a Profpect of a Gentleman Sutable to keep Sd School, Agreed that Jonas Bond Docter Convers & Joseph Mafon forthwith Endeavour to Ingage and Secure sd Gentleman to keep ye School in Watertown upon as eafey tearms as they can and for So Long time as the sd Gentleman Shall Agree to, not Exceeding the firft Munday in March Next, And make Report at the Next Meeting of the Selectmen
July 4. 1748. At a meeting of ye Selectmen at the Widow Mary Learneds, for the Confideration of the List of Licenced Perfons in Watertown &c.
The Selectmen Approved of Thos Saltmarfh Mary Learned & David Coollidge having their Licences as Inholders renewed for the ye Year Enfuing. Alfo m' John Hunt being Licenced as a Retailer for ye Year Enfuing.
At this Meeting Mefsrs. Jonas Bond Josiah Convers & Joseph Mason who were to Agree wth the Gentleman wch the Selectmen had Information was Likely to keep the School. Reported as follow's, That they had this Day Applied to M' Jonan Sewal (the Gentle abovsd) And had Agreed with him to keep the Grammer & English School in Watertown untill the firft Munday of March Next, after the Rate of One hundred and Sixty five pounds a Year, and to pay for or find him his Board. And He ye sd Sewal to begin to keep sd School the Eighteenth day of this Inftant July. Agre'd that Joseph Mason & Jonas Bond Endeavor to procure a place for the Schoolmafter to board at and Agree on wt terms.

July 11. 1748. At a meeting of the Selectmen at Docter Convers Agreed wth. Daniel Bond to keep Mary Prieft for a Month from the 15th. Day of this Inftant at Six Shillings pr Weak old Tenor and after that to keep her and her Child for her work (if the Child wch is now froward should be more Quet) if she be able to do wt is Equal to her Board.

[35] The Widow Mary Maddocks being under low Circumftances no place to shelter in and being now at Mr. Henry Springs jun' (where for a long time She has at times crowded her Self in and has been troublefome as well as Chargable to the familie sd Spring loth to turn her out into the streets) Said Spring Applied to the Selectmen (as Sd Widow had done a little before) & Aquainted the Selectmen with the Sd Widows Circumftances and that He could not maintain her alone the Selectmen taking the Matter into Confideration, Defired Mr. Spring to Let sd Widw. have houfe room and Victuals when She when She Should come to his houfe deftitute (and incourage her to be diligent in arning wt she can) And he ye sd Spring to have a Reafonable Recompence, and He to keep a true Acct.

At a meeting of the Selectmen at Jonathan Bemis on the 29th. Day of July AD. 1748. Wm. Denis at Henry Learneds Ordred the Clerk to Isue out a Warrant forth- with to Warn One Wm. Dennis and one Mary Mary Cornifh at Ben Haftings Cornifh alis Mary Bemis to Depart out of sd Town, the Selectmen refufing to Accept of them to be Inhabts. of Watertown. the Sd Dennis came from Roxbury in the County of Suffolk as ye Selectmen are Informed. And the Said Mary Came from Waltham in ye County of Middx where She is a proper Inhabt. thô She came Laft from Cambridge where she was warned out as ye Selectmen are Informed

Defired Joseph Mafon to pay out of ye sd Bill of Cost (wch is in his hands) to thofe it belongs to. Agreed to give to Edmd. Trowbridge Esq". who was Improved by ye Selectmen in sd Affair of Page befide his fee in sd Bill the Sum of four Pounds old Tenor. for his good Service in sd Affair. The Meeting houfe Glafs wanting Mending Agre'd that Mr Ebenez' Bradifh be Defired to mend Said Glafs as soon as may be.
At a Meeting of ye Selectmen at the Houfe of Oliver Livermors on the 10th. Day of November. 1748. In order to Confider what proper Steps to take relating to Sam1 Coollidge who is Reduced to such poor Circumbftances as requires Some Speedy care to be taken for him both for Support and Clothing to prevent his Suffering. Agre'd to procure forth with for sd Coollidge at the Cost of ye Town vizt. a good Warm Coat a Shurt a pr of Stockens a pr of Shoos and a Hat, and to be paid for out of the Town Treafurey, Defired Joseph Mafon and Oliver Livermore to procure the Same. Agre'd that the Selectmen will take proper care to procure a place to board sd Coollidge at, Agreed that Mr John Coollidge at whofe houfe the sd Samuel is at prefent, be reafonably rewarded by the Town for his boarding of him till the Selectmen have Oppertunity to Seek a place for him.
At a meeting of ye Selectmen at Docter Josiah Convers's on the Eighth Day of Decembr. 1748. The Selectmen being informed that their are Sundry Perfons come to refide in Watertown vizt Patrick Hoburn and Ann his wife, John Hoburn, John Stoal and Ruth Simfon otherwife Margret Wes otherwife Margret Bently who came all from Boston in ye County of Suffolk as ye Selectmen are Informed they all Refide in in the Dwelling Houfe of Frances Brindly Esq' wch is in sd Watertown. alfo Sarah Chadwick and her Daughter Submitt Chadwick the Said Sarah Came Laft from Newton & ye sd Submit Laft from Cambridge and some time in Sepr Laft. alfo James Wyer & his Wife and two Children who came from Dracket to Watertown in Octobr Laft thefe Perfons Refide in the Dwelling Houfe of Thaddeus Ward wch is in Watertown taken in by him as by Notification under his

His Diftrefsed Circumftances wch will in a few Days be ready for him, but as yet they have not found a place for him, He the sd Sam1 being at this prefent with his Brother Nath1. Coollidge. Agre'd that the sd Nath1. be reafon- ably Satiffyed for his Boarding him, untill further order The Town at yr Meeting in March Laft having pafed a Vote that Such perfons as Shall Send their Children or Servants to School sld provide wood for the fire in the School, but no perfon's perticulerly

And that what is received by him, He deliver to ye Selectmen who will provide wood there with for sd School. Decembr. 16: 1748. The Selectmen Delivred to Sam1 Coollidge the things they had procured for him vizt. A Coat a Shurt a hat a pr of Stockens & a pr of Shoo's wch came to £17=13 =.. with the Making. and after a Difcourfe wth Sd Coollidge urging him &c to git in to Some way of bufinefs. the Selectmen (who had ingage pay for his board till further order) now told him & his Brother Nath1. that they wld ingage but for one week longer.
At a meeting of the Selectmen at the Houfe of Jonan Bemis on the 26 of Decr. 1748. The Selectmen Agre'd to meet on the Second Munday of January Next at the Houfe of Rihd. Cuttings of Waltham Inhold'. at one of the Clock after Noon, In order to Adjuft the Charge of ye Great Bridge, with the Selectmen of Wefton and Waltham which has Arrifsen for Repairs Since the Laft Adjuftmt. Defired the Clerk to Send Notifications to the Selectmen of sd Towns to Defire them to Meet them at time & place on sd Affair.

At this Meting M' Nath1 Harrington Surveyer & Collecter for High Ways met with the Selectmen and made up Acct. of his work in Sd Ways. His Lift Ammounted to the Sum of £39 == 17 =. 8 New Tenor. which he has worked out Agreeable to the Vote of ye Town. all but Joseph Stearns & Isaac Holdins Rates. one of which is not Capable of work & ye other gone out of the Province.
