Voted to Choofe a Comtee: to Se the fence belonging to the Town Errected both Wall and Wooden fence Sd Commtee. to Cut down Some Trees on the Towns Land for the Making of ye Woodin fence and to Compleat the whole.

Voted and Continued Said Commtee: And they to Act on the Affair they were Chofen for if the other Town Concerned come in to it. M' Jonas Bond one of ye Truftees informed the Town that the Truftees had not prepared their Accts. to Lay before ye Town And the Town Voted that the Affair of ye Truftees be continued to the Adjournmt of this Meeting to give them Opper- tunity to prepare their Accts. to Lay before the Town, And the Town then to país on them.


Voted to Revive the Town buy Law Relating to horfes as it Now Stands on Record.


Voted that the Town buy Law Relating to Dogs going to the Publick Meeting houfe be Revived with this Alteration vizt. That the fine be one half to the poor of ye Town, and the other half to him or them that shall procicut & Sue for the Same.

Then the Petition of James Dix was Red, praying that the Town wld. pleafe So far to Superceed wt was done at Laft March Meeting as to Alow his Shoop to Continue on the Towns Land during the Towns pleafurer. and to Alow him So much of ye Towns Land as the Town shall Judge Necefsary & Convenant he paying a reafonable Rent to the Town for the same.


The Vote was put whether it is the mind of ye Town so far to Grant the prayer of ye. Petition, That the Petitioners Shoop which Stands on ye Towns Land Near the Mill Crick be alowed to Continue on ye Towns Land during the Towns pleafurer and that ye Petitioner have So much of ye Towns Land aforesd as May be Convenant to Accomodate sd Shoop during the Town's pleafure, he paying a Reafonable Rent to the Town for the Same .- And the Vote paft in the Affirmative


The Vote was put whether it is the mind of ye Town to Choofe A Commtee to Let to James Dix So much of ye Towns Land aforesd. As to Accomodate his shoop aforesd. and to Agree with him what Rent he shall pay for the same, and the Vote paft in the Affirmative.


Voted and Chofe Mefsrs. Oliver Livermore & John Sawin to be a Commtee. for the Ends Abovesaid.


Then Voted and Adjourned this Meeting to Munday the Eight day of June Next five of ye Clock Afternoon to this houfe.

The Meeting being but small, it was moved and Seconded to Adjourn the Meeting some time Longer.

At a meeting of ye Selectmen at Thos Saltmarfhs on the 15th. of June 1747. The Selectmen gave their Content That Thos Saltmarfh Mary Learned & David Coollidge should have their Licences renewed for this prefent Year, And Nath1. Harris Esq' Renew his Licence to retail.

We the Subfcribers a Comtee: Appointed to Divide the fence between the Towns Land Near Thomas Wellingtons with the Owners of ye Adjacent Land. having View'd the Land and Meafured the Line between sd Town Land & Thomas Welling- tons Land we find said Line According to our Meafure to be abot forty Eight Rods in the whole abot 24 Rods whereof belongs to ye Town to fence upon againft sd Wellingtons. And we judge it will be moft Convenant for ye Town (all things Confidred) to have their part together, Vizt. beginning at the South End at the Northeaft Corner of Mr Wellingtons Land & so runing on the South Line which is abt: fourteen Rods (where wall fence may be Errected) Then runing on the Weft Line till it comes to the Divifion which is abt Ten Rods on ye sd Weft Line, where there muft be woodin fence the other half the Sd Wellington Confents to take for his part. There is abt. Two Rods between sd Land & Land of Martha Coollidge. And Abt. 30 Rods as we judge without Meafuring between ye Towns Land & land of Wm. Godding, there is upland at both Ends (Mr Godding was not prefent ) We are of Oppinion (if ye Town Se meet) that Sd Godding take his Choice which half of ye Line he will take, to Errect and Maintain fence upon. We are of Oppinion that the Town Make wall fence where it will bear to be Made

When this Report was red & Accepted at ye Town Meeting Mr Godding being prefent was Defired to make his Choice which half of ye Line againft his Land he would take to Errect and maintain fence upon. & he made choice of the Southerly half.


At a Meeting of the Selectmen at Nath1. Harris Esq. on ye 27 of May 1747 At Sd Meeting Joseph Stearns paid his money for ye Land granted to him by ye Town in the year 1741 as alfo

for wt was Granted to Andw. White (wch Sd Stearns had bot of sd White) wch grants was in Elbo Hill Lane, which is in both ye Sum of Seven pounds old Tenour. At Sd Meeting John Coollidge Agreed to Renew his Bond, and to pay the Intereft of sd Bond from ye Eleventh of Decembr. 1740. He defired that he might have Liberty to Lay his Cafe before the Town by Petition for Abatmt of Some of ye Intreft, for Refons that He may give to ye Town.


Jabez Stratton & David Coollidge not Appearing at this Meeting Agree'd that they be Notified to come to ye Next Meeting of ye Selectmen


[24] July 20th: 1747. At a Meeting of ye Selectmen at ye Meeting houfe. Ordred that a Warrant be Isued out to Warn Thomas Train to Depart out of Watertown, who came from Wefton abt. the 5th. of June Laft as the Selectmen are Informed and Refides at ye Houfe of Sam1 Parry.


A Warrant was Isued out accordingly, Service done & Warrant returned P Conftable Nath1 Bright.


At a meeting of ye Selectmen at Mr. John Hunts on the 22d of July 1747. The Selectmen being Informed that there is one Jaan Perkens a Widow woman and her Daughter Sufanna Perkens (a Minor) come to Refide in Watertown who came from Bofton Some time in Octobr. Laft who Refides Now at the Houfe of Henry Learned, the Selectmen Refufing to Accept of them to be Inhabts. in Watertown. Ordred ye Clerk to Isue out a Warrant to warn them to Depart forth with out of Watertown. Accordingly a Warrant was Isued out.


At a meeting of the Selectmen at the Bridge &c on fryday the 18th : of September 1747. To Confider what is Necesary to be done for the Speedy Repairing of the Bridge over the Mill Crick it being out of Repair. The Selectmen having View'd Said Bridge, they find it Necessary that there be Emediately procured Two Cells to bear the Ends of the String pieces, and One String piece And as the Selectmen of Wefton were Defired the Laft Year to provid a String piece for sd Bridge, Agreed to send Word to the Selectmen of Wefton to bring Down sd String piece & Two Cills to the sd. Bridge by the Middle of the Next week. (word was Emmediatly Sent P Nath1. Walker of sd Wefton) The Select- men Agre'd to meet again at Sd Bridge on Thursday the 24 Inftant at two Clock afternoon in order to take further Steps relating to ye repairing of sd Bridge.


Thursday the 24th. of Sepr. 1747 The Selectmen meet and Agre'd to provid Stones and workmen and to go abot the work the Next Day.


Sepr. 25. The Selectmen Meet, And the Timber being Come from Wefton vizt one String piece of 41 feet Two Cills of 18

Sepr. 30 1747 At the Defire of David Coollidge the Select- men Preambulated with him on the Line between the High Way and the Small piece of Land bot of ye Towns Comtee: by his Father Thos Coollidge Deceafed, againft his Swamp (so Called) and the Line runs as follows vizt. beginning at the Eaftermoft bend in the Wall againft Sd Swamp and runs abot Nine Rods Eafterly parrellel with Dea Joseph Coolledgs wall on the oppifet Side of sd way, Said High way being full four Rods wide at ye End of said Nine Rods, and then with a gradual turn to run to the Northweft Corner of sd Dea: Coollidges Land on ye South Side of sd Way. Said Line departes from the bend aforesd and Entersix the Corner aforesd. and is a bow Line, the Land in clofed being abt Thirty feet wide in the middle or wideft place the two Ends are points. and is the Contents of Land Contained in the Deed in that place.

Jenifon alfo Defired the Selectmen to preambulate wth him on the line between his Land at a place Called Dorchefter field and the Town way Leading to the flats, the Selectmen Concented that ye sd Jenifon Should Straighten his fence Leaving sd Town way the whole Length of it againft his Land full two Rods in Width.


At a Meeting of ye Selectmen at Eben' Thatchers on ye 30th : of Nov": 1747 at sd Meeting Agreed wth m' Nath1 Harrington to keep the Gramer & Englifh School three months from ye 7th of Decembr Next, and as a reward y' for to have from the Town fifteen pounds Pr month old Tenor. Defired M' Hunt to procure a load of wood for ye school and to be paid therefor out of ye Town Treafurey. The Widw Webb standing in Need of a peticot a pr of stockens & a handkerchif, Agreed that they be procured for her & paid out of ye Treafury.


Samuel Jenifon Made Application to ye Selectmen on Accr of Sufana Murch who was at his houfe (Mr. Brindly refufing to let her live in his houfe) She being in Necefsitous Circumftances. the Selectmen defired sd Jenifon to Interceed wth his Mother for a room for her three months and they Ingage for the rent alfo Defired sd Jenifon to procure a load of wood for her and to be paid by ye. Town.


[26] At a meeting of ye Selectmen at the Houfe of Jonas Bond on the 20th. of January 1747. At Said Meeting the Se- lectmen Agreed to Send to the Selectmen of Wefton to procure fourteen hundred of plank for the great Bridge to be thick as ufual and Sixteen feet in length and to bring them to the Bridg as Soon as may be. Defired the Clerk to Send to sd. Selectmen. Agreed to Defire the Selectmen of Waltham to meet the Select- men of Watertown at M' Thos. Saltmarfhs Inholder in Water- town on Munday the firft Day of Feby. Next at Two of the clock afternoon in Order to adjust and proportion yd Accts of ye Charge of the poor and other Affairs where in the Towns are Concerned. Ordred the Clerk to Notify ye Selectmen of Waltham of Sd Meeting. Letters were Sent to yd Selectmen of Wefton & Waltham accordingly by ye Clerk .-

(1) To Choofe a Moderator for sd Meeting. (2) To Choofe Selectmen to manage the prudential Affairs of ye Town for ye Year Enfuing. To Choofe a Town Clerk a Town Treafurer Conftables Afsefsors and all other Such Town Officers as are by Law to be chofen in the month of March Annually. (3) To Choofe a Saxton and Agree how he Shall be Satisfyed. (4) To put in their Votes for a County Treafurer. (5) To know ye mind of ye Town wheth' Swine shall run at Large, under ye Regulations of ye Law in yt Refpect. (6) To hear the Town Treafurers Accts. (7) For ye Town to manifeft y" Minds how the Intreft Money Coming to ye Town this prefent year (the Year begin- ing ye 11th of December. Laft) Shall be Appropriated. (8) To Grant money to pay ye Revd: M' Storer his Salary according to Contract for the Enfuing Year, the year beginning the firft of March Next. And to know the mind of ye Town what Addition they will make to ye Revd M' Storers Salary for the Enfuing Year, and to Grant what may be Agreed on or otherwife Agree in what way and method it Shall be Satisfied. (9) To Grant money for the Support of the School, or other wife Agree how sd School Shall be Supported the Year Enfuing the year beginning the Eighth day of March Next, And for the Town to manifest yr minds in what way and Method a Schoolmafter shall be procured. and in what way and Method the School shall be Supplied with firewood. (10) To Grant money for the Support of ye Poor for the year Enfuing. And to do Any other thing Relating to the poor. (11) To hear the Accts. of thofe perfons To whom the Town is Indebted, and to Grant money to Satisfy them (12) To Grant money for the Repairing of ye Meeting houfe Glafs. (13) To Grant money for the Repairing of ye Great Bridge over Charles River in sd Town.

(15) To hear the pleas of some of ye Late Conftables for the Town to Abate or Sink Some perticuler Perfons Rates in their Lifts of Rates, and for the

Relation to a Bond which He gave to the Towns Committee for Land Sold to him by Said Committee. And for the Town to Act their pleafure with relation thereunto. (17) To hear the Acct. of the Late Truftees who Received Watertowns Proportion of ye £ 60000 Loan of y" proceedings in Said Truft. And for the Town to Act yr pleafure wth Relation thereto. (19) whereas there is a Certain building, Standing Near the Training field to be Sold by Matthias Stone To know the mind of ye Town, whether they will purchafe said building for the Ufe of the Town.

The Vote was put whether it is the Mind of ye Town to Choofe a Commtee. to Procure a Schoolmafter for ye Town at ye Towns Charge & ye Vote paft in ye Affirmative.


Voted that the Selectmen be a Committee for ye Ends aforesd. Voted that thofe Perfons who Send their Children or Servants to School Shall Supply the School with firewood when y' is Occation for ye Same


Voted and Granted the Sum of Eighty Pounds old Ten' for the Support of the Poor. the year Enfuing.


Voted that the Arreage of Sufan Murch's Rent Due to Fra: Brindley Esq' be paid out of Said Eighty Pounds to Sam1 Jenifon.


Then paft to ye 16th. Article in ye Warrant wch. was to hear Jabiz Stratton's Petition &c. (Said Stratton being prefent) After the Petition was Red and debated on The Vote was put whether it is the mind of the Town to Act any thing on said Article. And it paft in the Negative.


Upon a Motion made & Seconded. The Vote was put whether it is the mind of ye Town to Adjourn this Meeting and ye Remaining buifnefs to to Munday the 14th Day of this Inftant March at one of the clock afternoon at this place. And the Vote paft in the Affarmative. Accordingly it was Adjorned.


At a General Town meeting of ye freeholders & other Inhabts. of Watertown on the 14th. of March 1747/8 by Adjournmt.


A List of thofe Perfons and their Accts. to whom the Town is Indebted was Laid before the Town and Red Amounting in all to ye Sum of Eighty three Pounds 10/. after they were Confidred. The Vote was put whether the Town do Accept & a Low the Several Accts. as Mentioned in sd Lift. and ye Vote paft in the Affirmative.


Voted and Granted the Sum of Eighty three Pounds 10/ old Tener to Satisfy Said Accts.


Voted and Granted the Sum of Ten Pounds old T. for ye Mending the glafs of ye Meeting houfe. A


Voted for the Repairing of ye Great Bridge the Sum of Thirty Seven Pounds to be paid out of ye money Due to ye Town from the Late Truftees.


The Vote was put whether it is the mind of ye Town to mend the High Ways and Town ways by Rate this prefent Year, and ye Vote paft in ye Affarmative

Voted and Chofe the prefent Surveyers of ye HighWays vizt Nath1. Harrington & Sam1 Stratton to be the Collectors of sd Grant to mend the High Ways, or to Se that it be work't out According to ye Direction of ye Town.


Then the Vote was put whether it is the Mind of the Town that in working at the Way's above sd the price of a day for a Single man be Eighteen Shillings & the price of a Day for a man & his Teem be Thirty Six fhillings old Tenor, and that Eight hourfs be Accounted for a Day. and the Vote paft in the Affirma- tive.
