Mary Mad- docks Since the Town Was Divided the Selectmen of Waltham Objecting againft their Town paying their Proportion of ye Charge Watertown has been at for ye sd Maddocks Making this their plea That ye sd Maddocks is a Perfon whom by ye Articles of Agreemt. at ye Divifion of ye Town Waltham has no Relation to or Concern for .- Therefore
3ly. For the Town to hear the whole Affair Relating to the Widw. Maddocks And to Manafest their Minds whether they will Difpute the Affair in the Law, or take any other Methods to put an End to the Difputes. Whether it is the Mind of ye Town that the perfon who Shall be Chofen to Represent the Town at the General Court, That without He upon his being Chofen shall immediately declare that He will Serve the Town gratis, or that if he Shall Receive any wages for his Service, that He will pay the Same into the Town Treafurey for the Ufe of ye Town and without He do thus Declare his Choice to be look't upon as Null and Void, And the Town proceed to a nother Choice, and so till one Accept on said Terms .- And the Vote paft in the Affirmative.

At a Meeting of ye Selectmen on ye Second Day of August 1753 .-
The Selectmen having been Notified & Informed of Sundry Perfons who are Come to refide in Watertown vizt. One Elizh. Orfburn who came from Charlftown to Watertown on the 10 Day of Feby. Laft who refides at the Houfe of Uriah Clark. One Mary Vial who Came from Boston in the County of Suffolk to Watertown the firft Day of March Laft, who Refids at the Houfe of Ebenez' Hinds. Alfo one John Phillips with His Wife & four Children whofe Names are Hannah Thomas Phebee & Mary they Came from Cambridge to Watertown the 26th. Day of April Laft and Live in the Houfe of Stephen Palmer of sd. Cambridge The Circumftances of of ye abovenamed Perfons being Such that ye Selectmen Refufe to Accept of any of them to be Inhabts. of Watertown. Accordingly ordred the Clerk to Isue out a Warrant Directed to one of ye Conftables of sd Town forthwith to warne all the aboves Perfons to Depart out of sd. Watertown.

At a Meeting of ye Selectmen at M' Jona". Bemis's on ye 17th. of Octor. 1753. At Sd. Meeting Simon Coollidge gave an Acct. of His Boarding the Widw. Mary Maddocks between the Laft of Feby. 1753. and ye second of Octor. following 21 weeks in all at 4/ P week.
Criftopher Grant made his Application to ye Selectmen, On Acct. of ye sd Widw. Maddocks, who was at his Houfe and had been there ever Since ye second of this Inftant the Selectmen Agreed wth. ye sd Grant to Let ye sd Widw. be at his Houfe, as she may want a place of retreat, when She is out of work, and to find her her board when she is out of buisnefs and to keep Acct. of ye weeks he boards her and to have a reward of 4/ P week till further order of ye Selectmen, and He to Encourage her to git what work She can, the time of boarding her to begin ye 2d Day of this Inftant.
