At a Meeting of the Selectmen on Monday the 20th Day of August AD 1787. at the Houfe of Major Thomas Mellens. They having received a letter from mrs: Lydia Spring Requesting Some help for herfelf and two Children & desireing Some answer as Soon as they could they Directed the Clerk to write an answer to Said letter and let her know that they had the matter under Con- sideration & that She might Expect to know Somthing further about the matter Soon -


And Mr: Samuel Benjamin Applyed to the Selectmen to take care of his Sifter Wilson who came to his Houfe Some time in the month of last Past who came last from Cambridge, and is Suppofed to belong to either the town of Danvers in the County of Effex or to Providence in the State of Road Island, and it was agreed to enquire where She belonged and let m' Benjamin know their Determination as Soon as may be.


at this meeting Mr: John Cooke gave in a Notification in Writing that he had received into his Houfe on Nabby Fisher who came last from Newton on the Eighth Day of may last. And also on the 20th. Day of July he had Taken in one Allen Leach who came last from Boston on the Day afore Said and Said lately from Great-Britain.


At a Meeting of the Selectmen on the 27th- Day of August AD 1787. at the Houfe of m' Edward Richardfon They Agreed with m' : Josiah Learned to take and Board the Widow Hannah Learned for which he is to receive 5/ Pr Week and they gave him an order in Writting to remove her with what things belonged to her from William Learneds to his houfe.

Then one of the Committee that were Appointed at a former meeting to audit the Accounts between the town and Perticular perfons. Informed the Town yt Dificulties lay in the way So that they had not Proceeded on the affair, which being Considered it was moved & Voted that Said Committee be Difmift and a new one be Chofen for that Purpofe and that they be allowed reafon- able pay for their Service.


Voted and Chofe for Said Committee L Mr: Samuel White Mr Josiah Bisco Jonª : Brown Esq' : Voted that they make report at the Adjournment of the Meeting Then a Motion was made that Provifion Should be made for paying Some of ye the town Debts &c. Then Voted that a Sum of money be granted & afseft Sufficient to pay m' Josiah Capen what is justly due to him, also it was Voted that m' Richard Clark Collect a Sum emediately due on his prefent tax Bills that Said Capen may be Relieved for the prefent

They agreed to Call a Town-meeting to be on the 17 day of this Present month at the meeting Houfe at Nine O Clock in the morning to Choofe a Perfon to Represent the town in a Con- vention to be held at the State Houfe in Boston on the Second Wednesday of January Next


They also Agreed to have an other Meeting the Same day & at the Same Place to act on the following articles (Viz) First to Choofe a Moderator of the Meeting. Second to give the town treafurer Some Directions to enable him to Settle with Mr Joseph Bright (3d) to take under consideration the Request of m': John Cookson and afford him Such Relief as the town may think Proper. (4th-) to abate any Perfons tax's the town may think Proper : and act any thing thereon they may think Proper. (5ly) To hear the reports of any Committees and act any thing thereon they may think Proper, (6ly) To hear the Petition of Samuel Jenifon and act any thing thereon that is proper.

They agreed with m' Jedidiah Leathe for him to Improve the Hay Scales on year from this time he paying the Sum of four Pounds ten fhillings for the ufe thereof to the Town Treafurer in Quarterly payments as it becomes Due, but on failer thereof the Said agreement to be Void. They being Called upon by Capt Thomas Durant a Deputy Sheriff to Settle an Execution he had against the town for the Sum of £ 65 : 10 :9 They Borrowed of m': Jonas Bond to the amount of £ 17 :3 :6 in Certificates payable in one month from this Day, & of m' Timo- Williams £ 15 pounds in money payable on Demand with Interest till paid.
