The southeast part of the yard for about four rods square is full of graves, thirty or more, with no stones; these are Irishmen who died or were killed while the railroad was being built to Summit. There were so many quarrels and fights that the Militia were stationed here some months.
About a dozen graves in this yard are unknown and unmarked; some un- marked graves have been identified by Benjamin Crosby, and most of the graves have stones.

PART SECOND
GENEALOGICAL REGISTER OF SURRY FAMILIES
The following register is of those families who resided in town for any length of time; doubtless others were here prior to 1790 and even after that date whose records are not given.
Much time and labor in research work have been spent, thousands of letters written and hundreds of visits made to procure records. In some instances several attempts to obtain desired information have been rewarded with only partial success and it is a regret that many lacking items could not be secured. Frequently duplicate records have presented a most confusing situation; oftentimes town, gravestone and family records disagree; avoidance of errors has been impossible but special pains have been taken to make this part of the work as accurate as possible.
