1. JOHN' ROWE (or Row) son (probably) of John Rowe, was b. 1724, probably at Hebron, Conn. He d. in Sullivan about Jan. 22, 1812, 87 years. He m. (1) July 5, 1845, Mary William of Hebron, Conn., who d. Gilsum Aug. 3, 1777; m. (2) Nov. 26, 1777, Mrs. Hepzibah (Lord) Comstock of Sullivan. Their 2nd ch. was:

Alstead Sept. 3, 1879, dau. of Frank W. and Julia Emma (Austin) Orne, and divorced from Edmund M. Demerse, q.v. They were also divorced. He came to live and work for Frederick W. Martin, at No. 41, about 1916 where he still lives-1923. No ch.

Lancaster, Mass., Jan. 24, 1655/6. He m. (2) May 4, 1660, Hannah Prescott sister of his (1) wife; both were daus. of John and Mary (Platts) Prescott. Wife Hannah was killed Sept. 11, 1697 in the massacre at Lancaster, by the Indians. John1 Rugg d. about 1697. Their s. or gr-s. was:

He began working in a bakery in Keene when only 12 years of age, and had a stool to stand upon to dock the crackers-by-hand. When 18 he went to Boston and worked in a bakery, thence to Springfield, Mass., then he ret. to Keene. In 1844 he bought No. 30 in S. which he owned until about 1859; his family living here while he worked in the bakery during each week. He rem. to Keene and lived on Lincoln street till d. He m. Jan. 1, 1837, Sophia Wright b. Sterling, Mass. Mar. 27, 1814; d. Keene June 27, 1898, dau. of Philemon and Abigail (Bigelow) Wright, q.v. He came to Keene 1836.

He lived in S. when a boy; went to Keene 1854 to work for his uncle James Wright, then for Ex-Gov. Samuel Dinsmore and then with Norwood & Weeks. He served four years learning the tinsmith trade, and worked at that business in various places including Keene. He was m. Nov. 27, 1861, to Sarah Elizabeth Webster b. Chesterfield Oct. 1, 1840, dau. of Charles C. and Laverna (Clark) Webster a lawyer of Salem, Mass., Chesterfield and Keene. He d. Chesterfield, Nov. 9, 1922.
