DeWOLF or DOLPH

This name appears as DeWOLF, DeWOLFF, DeWOOLF and DOLPH. Several of the name resided in Connecticut during the eighteenth century. The following is supposed to be the ancestral line of our Surry family, yet this has not been fully established by the compiler.

4. DAVID4 DeWOLF (Matthew3, Matthew“, Matthew1) lived in Gilsum and probably in Jerico, Vt., where one of his ch. was b., but it appears he returned to S. about 1800 in indigent circumstances. As no mention of his wife is made, the supposition is that she died in Vermont, leaving two daughters who came to S. with their father. He was taken ill and became a "town charge" in 1801. The town paid Charles Carpenter $21.57 for his care during his last illness. Daniel Hayward $1.50 for making a coffin and Phinehas Allen .84 cents as sexton.
