CASWELL
The CASWELL name was quite numerous in town between 1837 and 1850; all are supposed to have been of the same family and came from Massachu- setts. With the records at hand we are unable to give a satisfactory family record; some of the foregoing came from the town records; some from tradi- tion and some from Cheshire Co. R. of D. Possibly all of the name were in company with Charles Carpenter at the mill, No. 112, around 1845-8, under the firm name of "Caswell & Carpenter." They ran the saw and grist mill, also made bobbins and hand hay rakes.
SOLOMON CASWELL was taxed in S. 1838 until 1842. Feb. 1, 1839 he bought the buildings on east side of road at No. 99, tore them down and re- built at No. 111. In 1842 he was "of Gill, Mass." Tradition says he m. Pamelia Britt, q. v. and lived in Montague, Mass.
OLIVER CASWELL of Orange, Mass., appears to have had an interest in the mill (No. 112) in 1847/8.
WILLIAM B. CASWELL of Winchendon, Mass., bought an interest in the mill in 1850.
ALMOND CASWELL was taxed in S. 1838, '39.
ALFRED1 CASWELL appears to have been interested in the mill from 1847-1850. He may have been the man of that name whose m. int. is on record in Winchendon, Mass., Nov. 27, 1834, to Abigail Arnold of Burrillville, R. I. He is believed to have been the man who lived at No. 111, before 1850, and was nicknamed "Old Caesar." He was m. and had 4 ch. all b. probably before they came to S. Daniel Carpenter an old bachelor lived in the family and was interested in the mill. He and Daniel Carpenter rem. to Parkersburg, Va., where they were in the lumber business.

CHICKREW
During the taking of the 1806 census there were three children of the name of CHICKREW living in Levi Hancock's family. They probably were of the same family-a boy and his two sisters. The name being so unusual, it is possible they were of Indian or negro descent. Another plausible solution, that the name originally was CHICKERING, a name now well known in this vicinity, though now frequently called by well informed men "CHICKRY."
