He was the second physician in Keene and his practice extended for many miles in all directions. Aug. 10, 1774 Jemima Puffer. He d. before 1802 as on Jan. 14, 1802 Mrs. Jemima Blake was joined in m. to Lieut. James Wright of Keene; she d. Keene, Jan. 19, 1844, aged 90 years.
24. WILLIAM WARD1 BLAKE whose ancestors are at present unknown, was taxed in S. "Middle School District" in 1792. He was of Keene and prob- ably kindred to the Blake family there. When and where he was b. and d. has not been ascertained. He m. Keene, Nov. 23, 1788, Roxanna Wyman, b. 1771; d. Keene, Feb. 17, 1801, dau. of Col. Isaac Wyman of Keene. He suc- ceeded Col. 6. Dr. ABNER® BLISS (Jonathan5, Jonathan4, Samuel3, Thomas2, John1) came to Gilsum as early as 1776; served in Rev. war from that town in 1777 and "was the first physician in Gilsum," and had an extensive and successful practice. According to G. H. he moved from that town to Alstead about 1789, but it is more probable he came to S. as his name appears in S. in 1790, and in 1792 he was taxed in the Middle school district in this town. Dr. Samuel Thomson states, Dr. Abner Bliss lived in a house on his farm about 1796- probably No. 137 (see map), which was just over the line in edge of Alstead. He d. in that town, but is buried in Gilsum. "It is remembered that the burial was on Sunday, and that many of the people ran out of meeting to see the procession, as it was in plain sight from the old common. Rev. Zebulon Streeter of Surry was the preacher that day, and to stop the disturbance quoted the text, 'Let the dead bury their dead'."-G. H. p. 180. He m. Naomi Loveland, b. Hebron, Conn., Nov. 29, 1757; d. Alstead, Jan. 25, 1843, dau. of Israel and Dinah (Loveland) Loveland, of Gilsum. There were quite a family of ch. (see G.
