The public stores were placed in his house, and when that was burned and blown up the early town records were destroyed. 1639, 11th mo., John Gore, Joseph Weld, John Johnson and William Parke all of Roxbury were a committee to establish a line between Roxbury and Boston, "have agreed that the trees marked," etc., should be the bounds. He also kept a tavern. He m. Margery -, b. England .; d. Roxbury 1655.

6. JOHN& JOHNSON (Edward5, Dea. John4, Nathaniel3, Capt. Isaac2, John1) came to that part of Westmoreland Leg, now Surry, and settled at No. 12, prior to 1762, from the following received from the office of The Secretary of State, Concord, N. H. "1762, Jan. 26, John Johnson of Westmoreland, yeo- man, 'in consideration of the Sum of Twenty pounds ten shillings Lawful money of the Prove of the Mass.t Bay" conveyed to William Barran of Keen, yeoman,

'All my Right unto all that Tract or Tracts of Land lying & being in the Township of Westmoreland Described as Follows'." This land was bounded on meadow lot No. 55 and 61 containing 104 acres with "an Allow- ance for a Road in said Lots." The date John purchased this property and moved here has not been found among N. H. records, yet it may be on file at Boston or Springfield, Mass. As he was here and sold land early in 1762, he certainly must have settled in what is now Surry as early as 1761 and pos- sibly, 1760. Whether Mr. Barron failed in his part of the contract or Mr. Johnson purchased other land near at hand, is unknown, but it appears John went to Winchester and where he was living Apr. 24, 1764, when he sold his home place here to Jonathan Parkhurst of Winchester.
