1. ABEL1 PUFFER b. 1770 (?), lived with Samuel Hills 1806. He doubt- less was the simple minded man whom tradition says formerly lived in that part of S.
2. CLARK1 PUFFER b. about 1792, a wood-chopper, came to S. 1852 from West Townsend, Vt., and lived in a log dwelling at No. 238 a couple of years, then moved into a choppers shack on West Surry Road in Keene. It stood 85 (?) rods south from the Darling road at a small ravine. Mr. Puffer had a young woman as his 2nd wife, by whom he had a son2 b. about 1850. Elias H. Heath, q. v. and others lived with him and did chopping.

1. Mrs. BETSEY2 (FISH) PULSIFER b. Andover, Mass., Feb. 28, 1778; m. in Acworth Feb. 28, 1797 Garish Pulsifer who entered the 1812 war and never returned. They lived after m. in Acworth, Alstead and in towns in Vermont, and she came to S. a widow with six ch. in June 1813. Her mother Mrs. Betsey1 (-) Fish m. as her 2nd husband Simon Ingalls and the whole family settled in Acworth in Feb. 1794. David Fish, q. v., probably was her brother. She had the spotted-fever in the fall of 1813 and became a town charge for several months, as well as her ch .; one of whom d. Probably she was the "Betsey Pulsifer" who m. Asa Wing of Gilsum. We have no further record of this family.

Mary Wright, q. v., but other records of him and his ch. are fragmentary and in- complete. Cemetery inscriptions in Woodland in Keene are found of a "Rahn" family, supposed to belong to him, and which we have considered, herewith. He m. (1) -; m. (2) in S. RANSTEAD
1. JOHN' RANSTEAD whose parentage is unknown was living in Ded- ham, Mass., where he was m. Mar. 28, 1768 to Hannah Merrifield, b. Dedham Sept. 14, 1745; dau. of Thomas and Mary (-) Merrifield. See Ben- jamin Merrifield. They rem. to Dublin 1771 and remained two years; Sept. 23, 1772 he purchased a tract of land in Westmoreland where he settled prior to Apr. 30, 1773.
He sold a ten acre meadow lot lying on Ashuelot River in that part of S. formerly Westmoreland to William Hayward, Feb. 8, 1775. This lot was No. 54 and originally drawn by Ebenezer Turner .- R. of D.
He was "drafted as a soldier in the Revolutionary War, served out his time, and returned home to Westmoreland. Afterwards, a Mr. Gleason, a neighbor of Mr. Ranstead's employed him to take his place in the army, which he did. He was with the army at Bennington, and was shot there, not in battle, but by the Tories, as he was, with some half-dozen others driving cattle to the army." -History of Dublin, 1855. She may have been the "widow Me- hitabel Redding" who m. S. Feb. 11, 1806 John Watts, "both of Alstead," if that is the case, she doubtless obtained a divorce, as Mr. John Redding lived until 1814.
