1. EBENEZER TURNER (perhaps of Connecticut) drew a ten-acre meadow lot in Westmoreland Leg. This lot was situated on Ashuelot river in what later became the south part of Surry. John Ranstead, q.v., purchased this land, and sold the same to William Hayward, Feb. 8, 1775. Ebenezer Turner is not known to have res. in this vicinity.

1. DURAN WADE, one of the "Proprietors" of Gilsum was of Lyme, Conn. In the drawing of the lots he was No. 13, and drew three 50 acre lots in what is now S .; L. 6; R. 1. L. 6; R. 2. L. 6; R. 3., all of which were on "Carpenter hill." Duran built on his land prior to 1770; in 1772, he was chosen "fence vuer." He sold a portion of his S. farm to his s. Thomas, Mar. 19, 1770 (R. of D.) and the balance to Dr. Gideon Tiffany of Keene in 1773. Abt. that time he rem. to Walpole where he res. until 1789, when he appears to have left. M. 2. VOLNEY (or Volany) B.1 WAIT, perhaps a s. of John1, was taxed in S. 1833-34. His m. int. was published Aug. 23, 1834, to Miss Cornelia Em- erson of Alstead.


WAKEFIELD.


1. Dr. JOHN' WAKEFIELD came to S. June 1821 and remained three or more years. In 1823 the town paid him $17.60 for doctoring Phebe Crandall, a pauper; and in May 1824 he doctored John Williams, a foreigner and negro who d. n.f.r.

*1. ROBERT' WARE b. England, d. 1699 probably at Wrentham, Mass. In 1642 land was granted him in Dedham, Mass. He m. (1) Mar. 24, 1645, Margrett Huntinge, d. Dedham, Aug. 26, 1670, dau. of John and Esther (Sea- born?) Huntinge. M. (2) 1676 Hannah Jones. Robert and Margrett are supposed to have been the ancestors of all of the name WARE who were living in New England prior to 1800.


2. MOSES' WARE (the possible line to Robert1 is as follows: Moses' b. June 7, 1702, John3 b. June 17, 1670, John2 b. Oct. 6, 1646, Robert1 Ware) b. Wrenthan, Nov. 16, 1739; d. Keene, N. Y. Aug. 23, 1812. He res. Norton, Mass., Swanzey and Gilsum. It is thought he was the "Mr. Moses Ware" who lately came from Wrentham to Surry and who was warned out of town, Dec. 24, 1778 by Moses D. Field, constable-recorded in town books, Dec. 3, 1784. As he remained in town several years thereafter evidently he did not seriously consider the "Warning." He m. 1768, Betsey Puffer (or possibly, Rebecca Puffer in 1761). They had numerous descendants connected with S. A more complete record is given in Gilsum History, pp. 408-10.

6. FANNY WILLIS WARE (the (3) wife of Capt. Benjamin Ware, see above), came to S. and spent the last 10 or 12 years with Mrs. Bradley Brit- ton, where she d. Jan. 1881 ?; bur. in Gilsum. The Sullivan History p. 1466 states she m. (2) Dec. 1, 1863, Stephen C. Switzer b. Bath 1793. She was fre- quently called, "Fanny Willis" even after marriage. No. ch.
