No matter what fate threw him, Max could overcome any odds to go on a trip, such as the time in the 1960's when the car never made it past Newhall and Max returned home, worked on the car for two days, started out again, noticed a broken axle on the trailer. They just rented an- other trailer and enjoyed the re- mainder of the vacation in the Redwoods.

In memory of Richard Cross Sr. Love To My Daddy Lena Ethel
The little man with silvery gray hair.
A little man whose memory wasn't there.
Whose heart was like a child, But always lifted you up with a great smile.
He always talked of children in the trees.
Especially when the breeze hit the leaves.
His love for his family. was. really great.
As his wife stood by him, a loving mate.
When night came, he was afraid to sleep.
And many times, he started to weep.
When you patted his shoulder, and told him "it's alright."
He was able to sleep most of the night.
My heart was heavy with pain When my daddy said many things without any gain.
We never stopped loving him as time went by.
All we could do is just try.
If medals are given to a person on earth,
Can you imagine how many my daddy is worth?
My daddy's not gone, he's takin' a rest.
Putting all of us kids to a test. We know we will see him again, at heaven's gate.
If we all believe in God Al- mighty, he's there for the take.
I love you, Daddy, with all my heart.
You were always there right from the start.
I'll be there to walk with you . hand and hand
Only the Lord knows when I can.
So, Daddy, wait at the golden stairs.
And you always know that your family really cares.
We will all be together in the great up above.
And it all started with a daddy for love.
I love you, Daddy, and will miss you.
