John was bom in Georgia July 23, 1936. He was an engineer employed by Noris Company. He loved to sing with the Heaven Bound Group.
John lived in the Valley for three years and resided in Bodfish.
He is survived by his mother, Tolbert Leah Adams; daughters Christy, Robyn and Michelle; sons Tim and Dean; 15 grandchildren; and broth- ers Keith, Samuel and Will- iam Adams.

Brandon Michael Funk
Private funeral arrange- ments have been made for Brandon Michael Funk, who passed away on May 12, 2001 after a long battle with Muscu- lar Dystrophy. Brandon was born May 11, 1985 and had just celebrated his 16th birth- day. He was quite a fighter and never gave up. He was an artist who loved to draw. He loved whales and dolphins. He loved playing games, and he loved the mountains and the ocean. He especially loved his and his grandfather's hobby of model trains. He had a big heart and always cared about other people. His grand- father Alfred preceded him in death in February of this year. Brandon is survived by his parents, Richard and Candice
Funk of Weldon; sisters Sh- annon and Savanna; brother Jake; many aunts and uncles; and his best friend Mike Ar- cher. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.

Victor Frederick Trodd
Private arrangements were made for Victor Frederick Trodd, who passed away May 19, 2001 in Mountain Mesa.
Victor was born Feb. 1, 1922 in Long Beach and moved to the Kem River Valley with his wife. Peggy, after retiring from Star Kist Foods 16 years ago. He was a member of the Masons Lodge No. 332 AMFM in San Pedro beginning in 1962. He was a WWII vet and served in the Pacific Theater.
Victor was a member of the Kern Vailey Golf Course and an avid golfer, and also a member of the Kem River Valley Gun Association. He was a volunteer for the Lake Patrol for eight years. He was also a Ham radio operator and enjoyed target shooting and boat- ing.
He is survived by his wife of 39 years, Peggy, of Wofford Heights; daughter Geri and husband Egan and grandson Scott, all of Long Beach; daughter Vicki and husband Howard Roberts and grandchildren Cheryl and Christine and
husband Greg, all of Florida; and sister and husband Rose and Don McMahan of Wofford Heights.
In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the Kem Valley Hospital Foundation in Loving Memory of Victor Trodd, P.O. Box 1628, Lake Isabella, CA 93240.
Victor will be very much missed. Arrangements were made with Valley Mortuary of Lake Isabella.
Violet Ann Rock
A memorial service is pending for Violet Ann Rock, who passed away on May 24, 2001 at home in Weldon.
Viclet was born Sept. 11, 1914 in Greencastle, Ind. She and her husband moved to California in 1948. Violet and her husband, Charles, both worked at China Lake for many years before retiring, she as a supply supervisor and PBX operator and was also with Western Union. She was a Brownie and Girl Scout leader on the base and very active in the Job's Daughters and Eastem Star.
She and Charles retired in 1972 and came to live here in the Kem Valley for four months out of the year and Las Vegas the rest of the year. They also en- joyed traveling and went around the world twice before settling in Las Vegas, where she joined the First Christian Church and played the piano and organ. She taught piano before moving to Califomia and Nevada.
She was preceded in death by her son Charles M. Rock and her husband Charles W. Rock on July 4,
1999 in Las Vegas. Violet then moved to Weldon to five full time with her daughter. She is survived by her daughter and son- in-law Delores and Leonard Hines; three grandchildren; seven great- grandchildren; and two sisters.
Violet was a wonderful Christian lady and her smile touched everyone who knew her. Her family would like to thank Kem Valley Hospital, Hospice and the caregivers.

Jane Blanche Pipkin
Jane Blanche Pipkin was born in Detroit on Oct. 24, 1913 to Arthur and Marie Marchand. They moved to California in 1923 and lived in Bellflower and Hawthome and other Southem Califor- nia cities. In 1961 they moved to the Lake Isabella area where she lived until her death on May 6, 2001.
Jane was a secretary for the Kem County School District for 16 years. Her love of fishing, dressmaking and traveling filled her time.
Jane was married to Fred Pipkin and was a devoted Navy wife to him until his death in 1980. Fred had 50 years service time.
She was preceded in death by her daughter, Beverly Robinson. She is survived by her daughter, Judy Samo of Weldon; six grandchildren; 17 great- grandchildren; and several great-great-grandchildren.
Jane is a great loss to all who knew and loved her.

Ellen Lucille Wallace
Private arrangements were made for Ellen Lucille Wallace, who passed away on May 25, 2001 in Moun- tain Mesa. Mrs. Wallace was born March 4, 1919 in Orange and worked as an escrow officer and manager for 13 years before retiring. She and her husband moved to the Kern River Valley 16 years ago after retiring. She was a wonder- ful seamstress and made many of her own ciothes. She enjoyed painting, cro- cheting and she was a great cook. She also taught her- self to play the organ and enjoyed singing. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother.
Ellen was preceded in death by her daughter, Patricia Ann Mcintyre, and brother Richard Timme of Dana Point. She is survived by her husband of 38 years, Price Wallace of Wofford Heights; son and daughter- in-law Jim and Ann Mcintyre of Fountain Valley; step- daughter Carol Muse and her husband Monty True; stepson Jim Wallace and his wife Linda; brother Rob- ert Timme; eight grandchil- dren and numerous great- grandchildren.
Arrangements were made by Valley Mortuary of Lake Isabella.
Richard Charles "Dick" Wall
Richard Charles "Dick" Wall, 70, passed away sur- rounded by his daughters at his home in Polson, Mont. on May 15, 2001 after a lengthy illness.
Dick was born on March 30, 1931 in Polson to Samuel H. and Juanita A. (Dupuis) Wall. He at-
tended schools in Polson and in Tacoma, Wash., and graduated from Polson High School in 1950. He worked in the woods as a young man and at Hungry Horse Dam and Kerr Dam. He started working as a technician in telephone communica- tions throughout the west- ern United States. He worked for Continental Telephone, residing in Wofford Heights, for many years. He retired from that profession in the mid- 1980s and moved back home to Polson.
Dick had a lot of loves in his life. He loved his family and friends. He enjoyed fast cars, guns, playing pool, traveling to gun shows and hunting. He was a serious gun collec- tor. He was a life member of the National Rifle Asso- ciation. He was a member of the Salish-Kootenai and Pend d'Oreille tribes and was fiercely proud of that. He was a longtime sup- porter of Indian boarding schools in Montana and the West.
He is survived by his four children, Jeanne Wall- Christopher of Ronan, Va .; Teresa Wall-McDonald and her husband Thomas of Ronan; Kelly Brookbank and her husband Jake of Seattle; Charles Timothy Wieder and his wife Corinne of Auburn, Wash .; numerous grandchildren, four great-grandsons; three brothers, Dean Wall and his wife Kay of Polson, Terrence Wall and his wife Susan of Polson, and David Wall of Polson; and sister Barbara Hulsey and her husband Virgil of Puyallup; Wash.
The funeral service was held May 18, 2001 at the Grogan Funeral Home in Polson, with the Rev. Gary Reller officiating. Burial was held at the Lakeview Cemetery.

Arlyn "Babe" Stevens
Arlyn "Babe" Stevens was born Feb. 4, 1917 and passed away June 1, 2001 in Bakersfield. He was a resident of Kern County since his retirement in 1976 from his job as a civil engi- neer with the California De- partment of Transportation.
Babe graduated from the School of Mines in Socorro, N.M. with a degree in geol- ogy and worked in the min- ing industry in Arizona, Colorado and New Mexico. He served in the United
States Navy, Seabees divi- sion, in the Pacific Theater and held the rank of Ser- geant upon discharge from the United States Air Force. He was awarded the Ameri- can Theater Ribbon and the Victory Medal.
Babe pursued his love of geology throughout his life. He was also an avid hunter and fisherman, winning many awards for his skills. He was proud to be a life- time member of the National Rifle Association.
He is survived by two daughters, Arlyn Macdonald of Montrose, Colo. and Sharyn Correia of Aurora, Colo .; a sister, Mary Stephenson of Hamilton, Tex. and a brother, Lanham Stevens of Ventura. He had five grand- children and eight great- grandchildren.
Interment was with full military honors at the San Joaquin National Cemetery in Gustine, Cal. following cremation. Funeral ar- rangements were by Kern River Family Mortuary, Bakersfield.
Donald Emmette Smith
Donald E. Smith was drawn into the presence of our Lord on June 5, 2001. Mr. Smith was born May 13, 1913 to Louise Agnes (Frick) and Donald Allen Smith in Centralia, III. On June 13, 1945 in Muskegon,
Mich., he married Gretchen E. Phelps and remained her devoted, caring and loving husband for 56 years. To- gether, they found time to enjoy the beauties of the mountains and streams and all that the Lord had made for them. Like the stones and gems that he collected and polished to bring out their natural beauty, his life is a tribute to steadfastness, hard work, self sacrifice, love of family, strong friend- ships, a willingness to help others with fix-it jobs, and an example of a man's single love for the beautiful wife he married. We are thankful for having him in our lives and will always remember all that he has meant to us.
Donald is survived by his wife, Gretchen Smith; six brothers, Delmo, David, Daniel, Dana and Richard Smith; sister Nellie Olson; and many generations of nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by sis- ters Grace Rames and Lillian Stout and brother Ray Smith.
Funeral services were held June 7, 2001 at 3 p.m. at First Church of the Nazarene of Lake Isabella, Doug Ernst officiating. In- terment was at Kern River Valley Cemetery in Wofford Heights. Arrangements were made with Valley Mor- tuary of Lake Isabella.
Ruth Johnson
Ruth Johnson was born Feb. 27, 1917 in Chicago to Peter and Alfina Olsen and was called home to the Lord on May 29, 2001 in Moun- tain Mesa. Roy, her hus- band of 52 years, preceded her in death in September 1989. A resident of Moun- tain Mesa for 25 years, she is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Clifford and Casey Johnson of Simi; daughter and son-in-law Norma and Richard Riedel of Squirrel Valley; grand- son Michael and wife Gina Johnson and great-grand- son Nathan; granddaugh- ter Caroline Johnson; and many nieces and nephews and dear friends.
Ruth was active in the Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church and the Ladies' Dorcas Society. Services were held June 4, 2001 at the Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church in Lake Isabella. Interment was June 5 at Westminster Memorial Park in Orange County.
Arrangements were made with Valley Mortuary, Lake Isabella.
Gerald Abbott Schaub
Gerald Abbott Schaub was born Dec. 27, 1933 to Anton and Vivian Schaub in Colorado, and passed away at the age of 67 on May 25, 2001 in Lake Isabella.
Gerald served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean Conflict. He spent 40 years in the entertainment indus- try during which time he lived in the Los Angeles area. After his retirement he moved to Lake Isabella and made his home in the Yankee Canyon area. Gerald built a shop and had all kinds of tools and equip- ment. He was very handy

with tools and making things. If he saw an item he liked he could reproduce it. If you needed something and couldn't find it in one of the local hardware stores you were sent to Gerald's home where you almost al- ways could find what you were looking for. Gerald loved to fish but hunting he never enjoyed since he didn't like to kill any animal.
Gerald is survived by his father, Anton Schaub of Lake Isabella; close friend and partner, Bonnie Chastain; sons Robert Schaub of Washington and Ronald Schaub of Idaho; daughter Cindy Dallas of California; sisters Betty Chambers and Toni Denny, both of California; 10 grand- children; and a great host of neighbors and friends who will greatly miss him.

Jerry Mack Carter
Jerry Mack Carter was born to Louis and Mary Carter on Nov. 4, 1938 in Lawrenceville, III. Jerry was gathered up in God's loving arms and taken to his eter- nal rest on June 9, 2001.
Jerry served his country in the U.S. Army from 1956 to 1962. While in the ser- vice he met and married Vivian Apalatea, and had 40 years of married life. When Jerry got out of the Army, they moved to the Kern River Valley. His first job was logging in Johnsondale. There he worked at the mill from 1965 to 1977. Jerry started driv- ing logging trucks for Carl Witten and J.J. Hern. In 1988 he bought his own truck and started another love affair, with his truck, which he called "Old Girl."
Jerry changed from log- ging to hauling chips for Wil- son Ag. Co. His truck was his great pride, and was always taken very good care of. Jerry was always there to lend a helping hand when it was needed. He was always happy to take his son Gordon along on his trips up and down the logging road. He loved to hunt; a special time was deer season when it opened up. Jerry also loved to spend time with his grandchildren. He loved them very much.
Jerry's family consisted of his wife, Vivian; son Gordon; four sisters, Peg Foster, Penny Fox, Polly Mieure and Greta Seed; four brothers, Robert, Tim, Mike and Steve, all from Illinois.
Jerry and family have been in the Valley 50 years.
Services were held in the Rose Chapel of the Lake Isabella Funeral Home, a memorial service with the VFW Post 7665 of Lake Isabella. Pastor Jack Dilley held the ser- vice with a special per- sonal message from Johnny McNally, a long- time resident of the Kern River Valley.

Joseph Edward Wieser
Private arrangements were made for Joseph Ed- ward Wieser, who passed away June 9, 2001 in Moun- tain Mesa.
Mr. Wieser was born on Jan. 11, 1917 in
Poughkeepsie, N.Y. He and his family moved to Agua Dulce after he retired from Hughes Markets after 46 years. He was a pilot and flew his Cessna for about 10 years before he started flying his model airplanes,. which he enjoyed very much. He and his wife moved to the Kern River Valley about 10 years ago. They loved to go camping and boating and bowling. He was a wonderful hus- band and enjoyed his fam- ily.
He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Marjorie; son and daughter-in-law Steven and Wendy Wieser of Moorpark; daughter Sandra Wieser of Southlake; two grandchildren, Kevin and Katie; and sister Vivian Trout of Onyx. He will.be greatly missed.

William Melvin "Mel" Hetrick
Memorial services for Will- iam Melvin "Mel" Hetrick were held at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses in Lake Isabella on June 23, 2001. Mel was born in Mattoon, Ill., on Dec. 17, 1945, and passed away at his home in Bodfish on June 17, 2001. He was baptized on Feb. 22, 1959.
Mel's family moved to Cali- fomia when he was a young boy. He was raised in Norwalk and graduated from Norwalk High School. In 1966, Mel met and married Teresa Pearson. They moved to the Kem River Valley in 1974, where Mel owned and operated Foreign Automotive until 1981. Hethen attended Cypress College in Cypress, graduating from their Mortuary Science Course in 1984. He was employed by Valley Mortuary in Lake Isabella from 1981 until 1993, when he became the owner and manager of Ridgecrest Mortuary in Ridgecrest.
Surviving Mel is his wife of 34 years, Teresa of Bodfish; daughter and son-in-law, Tania and Brian Hickey of Oneida, Tenn .; daughter Me- lissa Hetrick of Bodfish; son Jesse Hetrick of Bodfish; grandson Travis Hickey of Oneida, Tenn .; granddaugh- ter Kayla Hickey of Oneida, Tenn .; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
Mel will be greatly missed as a loving husband, father, grandfather and friend. A spe- cial gratitude to Dr. Mukhopadhyay and the staff of the Comprehensive Blood and Cancer Center for their tender care.

Kenneth Leon Bledsoe
Kenneth Leon Bledsoe was born to Freedland and Lillie Bledsoe in Tonkawa, Okla. on Aug. 9, 1930. He entered into rest on June 17, 2001 at his home in Lake Isabella.
Kenneth served his coun- try in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean conflict. He was a lover of the outdoors and liked to hunt and fish and especially pan for gold. He also liked lapidary work. Kenneth was a coin collector and baseball card collector. He is survived by his sisters Mary Schanley of Wofford Heights and Wanda Harrison of Seal Beach, Calif .; and his large family and a host of friends. He will be greatly missed by all.
Services were entrusted to the Bonewell Family of the Lake Isabella Funeral Home.
Christopher Lyn Witten
Graveside services were held June 26, 2001 at Kem River Valley Cemetery for Christopher Lyn Witten, who died after a logging accident on June 20, 2001.
Chris was born March 9, 1979 in Bakersfield and spent his life here in the Kern Valley. He graduated from Kern Valley High School in 1997, where he enjoyed play- ing football. He married Jerrilyn Duvall in Sept. 1997 and they made their home in Southlake.
Chris enjoyed motor- cycles and bowling and his family. He is survived by his wife, Jerri; children Marissa, James, Christopher Jr., Brit- tany and a new baby; his father and mother, Jesse and Pam Witten of Weldon; sis- ter Kimberly Witten of Weldon; father-in-law and mother-in-law Jim and Jackie Burrows of Lake Isabella; Grampa Carl Witten; Grampa Benny Parker; Grampa Don Duvall and Gramma Ora Lue Husk: and many other family members.

Karen Ann Campbell
Karen was bom to John and Marcia Wagner in Los Angeles on Dec. 27, 1948 and went to rest in the arms of the Lord on June 15, 2001.
Karen was dedicated in helping others and never ex- pecting anything in retum. She loved to cook and was great at making special dishes. She also spent much time garden- ing, thatbeing a special hobby of hers. Karen loved nature and especially had a love of her cats and her Maggie. It is impossible to imagine the number of people she touched in such a short amount of time.
Karen will be deeply missed by her family and friends, and will always hold a special place in our hearts. Karen's laughter and smile and most of all her wonderful loving per- sonality will always be there for us to gather strength from.
She is survived by her best friend and husband Steve Campbell; her daughter Amy Christine Tokumoto and hus- band Matthew; son David Sadao Tokumoto and wife Kellie; and five beautiful grand- children, Tyler, Rikki, Tryson, Jamal and Alyah, who loved her greatly.

Fred D. "Buck" Wheat
Fred Wheat was born on Oct. 12, 1933 to Fred and Eula Wheat in Trona. Buck worked at the Trona Chemi- cal Plant for 42 years. When he retired in 1986, Fred and his wife Ella moved to Kemville, where he went to work for the Forest Service.
Buck served his country in the U.S. Army. He served in Korea where he made Corpo- ral. His hobbies were camp- ing, fishing, boating and flying model airplanes.
Buck is survived by his son, Dennis Wheat of Oregon; daughter Theresa Fox of Or- egon; son Michael Wheat of Texas; and stepsons Jimi, Nino and Tim Agonstinacci, all of Ridgecrest, and Joe Agonstinacci of Washington.
Buck was a loving and car- ing husband, brother, father, grandfather, uncle and friend. He will be missed very much.
Visitation was held at the Lake Isabella Funeral Home on June 25, 2001, with graveside services following at the Kem River Valley Cem- etery.

Leland David Templeton
Private arrangements were made for Leland David Templeton, who passed away after a long illness June 20, 2001 at his residence in Lake Isabella.
Leland was born June 25, 1949 in Springfield. Mo. He moved to San Fernando. where he owned and oper- ated the Royal Protection Security Service for several years before moving to the Kern Valley to be near his family.
He is survived by his mother, Clarabell Templeton of Lake Isabella; twin brother John Templeton of Lake Isabella; sisters Evelyn Paquet of Lake Isabella. Ellen and husband James Tyree of Reno, and Pat and husband Gary Thompson of Lake Isabella; 11 nieces and nephews; and 11 great- nieces and great-nephews.

Hilda Anne Patrick
A memorial service will be held July 14, 2001 at the Elks Lodge in Wofford Heights for Hilda Anne Patrick, who passed away on June 27, 2001 in Mountain Mesa.
Hilda was born July 24, 1923 in Isabel, S.D. and was a resident of the Kern River Valley for 24 years. She was a member of the Bodfish Beamers, a Jim Beam bottle collecting club, and loved working in her yard. She and her husband enjoyed their camping trip to Alaska. She was preceded in death by her husband, Cecil Patrick; daughters Bonnie Love and Shirley
Patrick; sisters Sally Thompson and Edna Ewalt; and brothers Albert and Rufus Badure .. She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law Raymond and Fran Patrick; sisters and brothers Martha Schrieber, Emma Hettich, Thelma Wagner, John Badure, Vi Hagstrom, LaVon Adair, Katie Gill and Allen Badure; and many friends.

Victor Gordon Noel
Victor Gordon Noel was born in Pittsburgh, Pa. on April 19, 1923 to Victor and Mary Noel. He
passed away on June 14, 2001.
Victor served under General Patton in the 346th regiment in Europe during WWII as a medic. He was a member of the VFW Post 7665 of Lake Isabella. He leaves a son and two daughters- Victor Noel III of Corona, Carol Peebles of Cotton- wood, Calif. and Laurie Bucholz of Chicago, as well as six grandchildren.
Victor was buried in the Arlington Cemetery in Riverside on June 27, 2001. A memorial will be held for him on July 7, 2001 at 10 a.m. at the VFW Post 7665 in Lake Isabella. Everyone is cordially invited to at- tend.

Nellene "Nickie" Martland Carillo
Nellene was born to Melvin and Aleene Mallette in Tujunga, Calif., on July 12, 1929. She entered into rest on June 30, 2001 in Bakersfield.
"Nickie" was in the lake area for over 40 years. She was a one-time owner of the Corral Cafe in Kernville. She also worked in many of the local restaurants around the Kern River Valley.
She enjoyed crocheting and many different crafts, as well as camping and fish- ing in the high country. She also delighted in spending time with her daughter. grandchildren and great- grandchildren. "Nickie" loved the lake and what it offered.
She is survived by her husband, Robert, of Lake Isabella; daughter Marsha Lander of Hesperia; four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. "Nickie" will be greatly missed.
Services were entrusted to the Bonewell Family of the Lake Isabella Funeral Home.
Robert Henry Reynolds
Robert Henry Reynolds was born on March 24, 1926, to Edgar Charles and Zula Adeline Reynolds in California. He entered his final rest on June 21, 2001 in Lake Isabella.
Robert was an avid fish- erman, hunter and gunsmith and also made stocks for guns. He proudly served his country in World War II as a merchant marine.
For many years he en- joyed his musical participa- tion with the Bakersfield Community Theater Group. He also was one of the first Scoutmasters for the Boy Scouts in the 1960s.
A memorial service was performed on June 26, 2001 at the First Baptist Church of Lake Isabella. Pastor Eric Malamma presided.
Robert is survived by his wife, Ruth M. of Weldon; his mother Lu Reynolds of Washington; son Robert and wife Doris of Salem, Ore .; son Jay of Bakers- field; five grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; a sis- ter, Jo Calhoun of Reno; and numerous nieces and nephews. He will be missed by all who knew and loved him.
