Simpson 120 ;.
Meeting for breakfasts at vari- ous places, he involved his group in helpful community work. As the group grew and eventually became the KRV CBers, they had to move to larger quarters, from the Dam Korner Cafe, the Elk's Lodge, the Eagles Lodge, . and finally, the Senior Center when it was built in Lake Isabella.
Money was contributed at each of these places from the breakfasts or "Breaks," in CB language. Community causes were helped along the way. Coathanger, Lee's CB "handle," became well known all over the Valley, and his CBers, under his guidance, helped many good causes in the Valley. Coathanger was instrumental in taking over the U.S. surplus food commodities in 1981, which are distributed to those of low income once a month. Coathanger organized the CBers to fetch the food from Bakersfield in their own trucks to be given out at predesignated distribution spots. When the group was younger and more able, Coathanger organized mini-jamborees and raised money each year for a two-week food basket for those in need at Christmas.
