Hazel Juanita Erdle
Graveside funeral services were held with interment at the Kern River Valley Cemetery in Wofford Heights on Dec. 2, 1999 for longtime Caliente resi- dent Hazel Erdle, 91.
Hazel passed away at Burlington Residential Care in Wofford Heights on Nov. 27, 1999. Hazel was born on Feb. 4, 1908 in Gypson, Kan. to . William and Clara Read. She spent her early years living in large cities where she lived an active and colorful life. But the call of the out-of-doors always pulled her to a remote country type of living. She lived for a number of years in Chicago and was married to the editor in chief of the Chicago Tribune newspaper, Mr. Howard Harrison. Following his death she was married to Mr. Rhinier, a scientist who invented the metal vitalium, which is used to reconstruct damaged bones.
Moving west, she first came to Hollywood to the Bel-Air area, and about 25 years ago she settled in Caliente. As a child she climbed a sapling and swayed to and fro in the wind as she sang to the birds. Once she saw a bear in her yard so she went out to see if she could get a close-up look. She also saw mountain lions, bobcats and deer in her yard. Most of her life she raised En- glish bulldogs and had several champion show dogs. Hazel loved classical music, espe- cially the piano. She is sur- vived by her half-sister Gladys Loser and her daughter Eudora Benson, both of Tulsa; nephew William R. Smith of Rainier, Wash .; great-nephew and his wife Shawn and Happy Smith of Sacramento; and by many friends.

Miss me a little; but not too long, and not with your head bowed low. Remember the love that we once shared. Miss me, but let me go. For this is a jour- ney that we all must take, and each must go alone. It's all a part of the Master's plan, a step on the road to home.
