The Changing Days of Youth (Free To Be Young)

by Paul B. R. Swanson, March 19, 1996

How well I remember the days of my youth Days of falsehood, days of

truth

Days of loss, days of gain Days of peace, days of pain

At times poor, never wealthy, but, praise God, mostly healthy.

Free to worship as I please As a young man, to sail the seas

To serve my country, full of pride

To take my loved one as my bride,

Togo through school, free to learn,

To do the things for which I yearn

Free to make friends with those around me

I've had their support when trouble surround me.

I've been a friend in time of need

I've helped brothers with a worthy deed

Oft, life seemed unfair, make no mistake,

› It's a constant series of give and take,

Traveling life's highway, I oft pay a toll

Yet I continue along as I roll

Tho now I'm old, I've been young.

Of life's events, I've often sung

At times in life, a hard path I've taken

but by God's grace I've never been forsaken.
