Gertrude Lambert
Funeral services were held on Thursday, December 5, 1996, at 11:00 a.m. at Shep- herd of the Hills Lutheran Church for Gertrude Lambert of Lake Isabella. Officiating was Dr. Marvin Moon.
Mrs. Lambert was born De- cember 31, 1904, in Tahl Harz, Germany and passed away af- ter a long illness in Lake Isa- bella on November 29, 1996.
She had been a Real Estate Broker for over 50 years, in Indiana, Illinois, Oklahoma and California. She was a Real Es- tate Broker in the Kern River Valley when she first moved here in 1976. She was a mem- ber of the Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church.
Mrs. Lambert is survived by her son Wally Ahlborn of
Munising, Michigan; stepson Morgan Lambert of Lake Isa- bella; stepdaughter Grace Shanks of Escondido, Califor- nia; and sisters, Helen Lankow of Illinois; Elise Robbins of Gladstone, Oregon; Charlette Beechler of El Cajon, Califor- nia; Marge Wollas of Oak Har- bor, Washington; and Lois Nabors of Arrow Bear, Califor- nia; 21 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Floyd Edward Carpenter
Floyd Edward Carpenter, a 15 year resident of the Kern River Valley, died Monday, December 2, 1996, at San Joaquin Community Hospital in
Bakersfield. He was 77.
He was born on September 30, 1919, in St. Joseph, Mis- souri. He worked as a lather for over 20 years.
Mr. Carpenter is survived by Frances Johnson of Lake Isa- bella; his daughters Cherrie Ruonavaara of Mojave, Cali- fornia; Mamie Markiewicz of Mesa, Arizona; sister Alice Dale of Lake Isabella; seven grand- children and 15 great-grand- children.
Graveside services were held on Friday, December 6, 1996, at 1:00 p.m. at the Kern River Valley Cemetery in Wof- ford Heights. Officiating was Pastor Deryl Lackey of the Mt. View Southern Baptist Church of Lake Isabella.

Jack "Corky" Tibbetts Huston
A memorial service for Jack "Corky" Huston, age 68, will be held on Wednesday, Decem- ber 19, 1996, at 1:00 p.m. at Rose Chapel, Lake Isabella Funeral Home, with the local V.F.W. conducting the cer -. emony.
Corky was born in Bakers- field, California, on August 27, 1928, to Jack and Carla Huston. He attended Bakersfield Schools and Pepperdine Col- lege. He was a long time resi- dent of the Kern River Valley. He was interested in all phases of living; a talented artist, avid reader and loved sports.
He served his country during the Korean War from 1951 to 1953 as 2nd Lt. in the Army. He received two purple hearts (one oak leaf cluster) and numerous other battlefield commenda- tions. He suffered the rest of his life from injuries received dur- ing this war. He was very proud of and loved his country.
Corky is survived by his wife Carole; son Rocky of Lincoln City, Oregon; son Vince and wife Bodil of Maaloey, Norway; and granddaughter Tiffany Roxanne and a sister, Virginia Easley of Lincoln City, Oregon; his daughter, Roxanne, pre- ceded him in death in 1984. He also leaves hundreds of friends around this valley and the coun- try. He will be buried at the Riverside National Cemetery.

May Hulse Greenway
A private interment was held for May Greenway, age 87, who passed away on December 7, 1996. May was born in Dallas, Texas on September 26, 1909 to George and Willa Hulse. She received her schooling in Texas and moved to the Los Angeles area where she worked as Lead Person for Weber Aircraft. She married Robert Oswald
Greenway on August 28, 1978 and they resided in Northridge, California. In 1982 they moved to the lake area, settling in Bod- fish.
May and Robert were active members of the Good Sam Rovers and the Clan Diggers. She was a devoted wife to Rob- ert, who was the true love of her life.
In addition to Robert, May is survived by her sister Dixie and husband Merl Kraus of Riverk- ern; niece Barbara Jones of Santa Maria; one grand- nephew, two grand-nieces, a great-great-grandnephew and two great-great-grandnieces, all of whom she loved very much.
She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.

Charles C. "Chuck" Weaver
Services were held on Mon- day, December 16, 1996, at the Rose Chapel, Lake Isabella Funeral Home for Chuck Weaver who entered eternal rest at his home on December 11, 1996, after a long illness. The VFW conducted the ser- vice and his nephew, William Weaver, of the First Assembly of God in Lemoore, California, gave the eulogy. Interment was at Riverside National Cemetery on Tuesday, December 17, 1996, with military honors.
Chuck was born in Poteet, Texas on December 30, 1920, to Frederick and Amanda Weaver. He received his schooling there and moved to the Los Angeles area in 1938. He married Louise Walther in Los Angeles on September 27, 1942. They and their two sons moved to Mt. Mesa in 1955 and opened a bait and tackle shop there, and later developed the Weavers Trailer Park.
He served in World War II in the Army Air Force, flying 21 missions over Germany. He was a member of the local VFW, American Legion and the B-17
Crew and Wingmen. Chuck loved the outdoors and his hob- bies of fishing and hunting were shared with his sons and grand- son.
In addition to his wife Louise, Chuck is survived by his son Timothy Paul "Pete" Weaver and grandson Timothy, age 9; a sister Mary Jane Moses and husband Bob of Santa Cruz; special niece Mary Elizabeth Lynch of Lake Isabella; neph- ews Albert and Val Lynch, and Bill Weaver; sister-in-law Sue Weaver. A son Frederick Charles predeceased Chuck in 1991. Chuck was well loved by everyone who knew him and will be greatly missed.

Laura Jeanne Maeda
A graveside service was held Saturday, December 14, 1996, at 10:00 a.m. at the Kern River Valley Cemetery for Laura Jeanne Maeda of Weldon. Offi- ciating was Father Charles Casale of St. Jude's Catholic Church of Wofford Heights.
Laura was born November 28, 1916, in Oklahoma. She died December 8, 1996, at the Kern Valley Hospital Nursing Center. She was 80 years old. Laura was a 16-year resident of the Kern River Valley and a member of St. Jude's Catholic Church. She worked as a sec- retary for the Unisys Corp. for over 20 years.
She is survived by her nieces Donna Akiona of Westminster, California; Stephnie Clark of Washington; and nephew James Aslin of Idaho.

Bertha Mae Williamson
Memorial services for Ber- tha Mae Williamson, age 75, of Lake Isabella, were held on Saturday, December 14, 1996, at 10:00 a.m. in the Valley Mor- tuary Chapel with Pastor Deryl Lackey of the Mt. View South- ern Baptist Church officiating.
An eight-year Kern River Valley resident, Mrs. Williamson was born January 11, 1922 in Pasadena. She was a retired occupational therapist and served in the U.S. Army for 10 years in the Medical Specialty Corps, retiring with the rank of captain. After moving to Lake Isabella, she enjoyed taking classes at Cerro Coso College and met many wonderful friends there.
She is survived by her hus- band, Robert L. Williamson of Lake Isabella; her daughter, Linda Leo of Scottsdale, Ari- zona; and her sister, Elizabeth Johnson of San Pedro.

Rua Alice Collett
Graveside services for Rua Alice Collett, age 90, a former 20-year Kern River Valley resi- dent, were held on Monday, December 16, 1996, at 1:00 p.m. in the Kern River Valley Cemetery, Wofford Heights with Pastor Floyd Castillo of the Highland Chapel Methodist Church officiating.
Mrs. Collett was born June 14, 1906 in Cherokee Indian Territory before it became the state of Oklahoma. When she was eight years old, she rode with her family in a covered wagon to homestead in Ne- braska. She moved to Califor- nia during World War II.
She is survived by her daugh- ter and son-in-law, Margery and J.T. Ferguson of Long Beach; her son-in-law, Casey Jones of Wofford Heights; a grand- daughter Peggy Smith of Yorba Linda; three grandsons, Clint Ferguson of Irvine, California; Cliff Jones of Oklahoma and Keith Jones of Tulare, as well as nine great-grandchildren. Mrs. Collett was preceded in death by her husband, Norton E. Collett in 1989.

Funeral services for Loris C. Stoner, age 79, of Lake Isabella were held on Tues- day, December 17, 1996, at 11 a.m. at the Highland Chapel United Methodist Church with Pastor Floyd Castillo officiat- ing. Interment followed at the Kern River Valley Cemetery in Wofford Heights.
Loris was born March 2, 1917, in Waseca, Minnesota to Edwin and Emma Fretham, the oldest of three daughters. She worked as a bookkeeper at the Farmer's State Bank in Waseca and the D.W. Owen Company in Minneapolis be- fore moving to California in 1948. She married Colonel B. "Red" Stoner on October 29, 1948. They lived in Pacoima, San Fernando and then re- tired to Lake Isabella where Loris passed away on Decem- ber 12, 1996.
Loris was an accomplished cook, loved her home and was devoted to her church. She was a member of Highland Chapel United Methodist Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband on August 29, 1994. Survivors include a daughter Elizabeth Spiegel of Cleburne, Texas; two sisters, Elaine Saltvold of Richfield, Minnesota and Beverly Paulson of Roseburg, Oregon; four grandchildren, Debbie Darling, Susan Singleton and Mike Turk of Arlington, Texas and Patty Hejde of Cleburne, Texas. .

Elinor Belle Headley
Private arrangements were made for Elinor Belle Headley who passed away December 14, 1996, in Mt. Mesa, Califor- nia.
She was born May 11, 1914, in Elko, Nevada and has lived in Kern County for over six years. She moved to the Kern River Valley after retiring from the grocery business. She owned and operated Elinor's Market for over 20 years. She enjoyed crocheting and mak- ing things for others.
Elinor is survived by her sons Donald Headley of Wof- ford Heights; Ray Headley of Alhambra; and Gene Headley of Modesto, California; also a sister, Edith Brown of Wash- ington; six grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Chester "Chet" Robert Gorden

Visi- tation will be held Thursday, December 26, 1996, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Friday, December 27, 1996, from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m.
Mr. Gorden was born in Half Way, Missouri on November 21, 1921 and passed away in Bakersfield, California, on December 19, 1996.
He served in the U.S. Coast Guard for four years and has lived in the Kern River Valley for the past 35 years. He was the owner of Chet's Garage for 30 years and was the au- thorized towing service for AAA for 30 years.
He is survived by his son Robert David Gorden of Gua- temala; daughters, Christina Arnold of Pasadena, Califor- nia; Cynthia Arnote of Los Angeles, California; eight grandchildren, one great- grandchild; sister Loretta Dean of Lake Isabella; brothers, Alva Gorden of Quartz Hill; Marvin Goden of Costa Mesa; and Melvin Gorden of Pasadena, California.

Fred H. Copeland, age 74, a 15-year resident of Wofford Heights died Monday, Decem- ber 16, 1996, while visiting his son Sean in Carlsbad. Born July 30, 1922 in Columbus, Nebraska, he served as a 1st
Lieutenant with the U.S. Army Air Corps during WWII and was an aerospace engineer with the Northrop Corporation for 37 years.
His survivors include wife Evelyn M. Copeland of Wof- ford Heights; sons Alan and daughter-in-law Judy Copeland of Huntington Beach; Joseph Copeland- of Irvine; James Copeland of Redondo Beach; Philip and daughter-in-law Sara Copeland of Vista; Sean Copeland of Carlsbad; Donald and daughter-in-law Amy Copeland of Woodland Hills; daughters Anita and son-in- law Kevin Mauch of Moore Park; Kathleen and son-in-law Tom Guy of Leucadia; broth-
ers Richard Copeland of "Whittler; Robert Copeland of Huntington Beach; sister Dor- othy Lyman of Camarillo; and seven grandchildren.
Visitation was held from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Decem- ber 19, 1996, at Encinitas Mortuary, 340 Melrose Av- enue, Encinitas. Bernice May Winans
Private arrangements were made for Bernice May Winans. She was born February 23, 1916 in St. Paul, Minnesota and passed away on Decem- ber 26, 1996 in Bakersfield, California. She has been a resi- dent of the Kern River Valley for the past 20 years.
Bernice is survived by her son Michael McGee of Los Osos, California; her daugh- ters Susan Martin of Wofford Heights and Karen Sowers of Virginia; also four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Edward "Ed" H. Brown
Edward "Ed" H. Brown, born in Silverton, Oregon on July 20, 1921, passed away peacefully at his home on Wednesday, December 25, 1996.
Ed loved his home, the val- ley and the high country. He served in the U.S. Air Corps. He will be missed by his loving wife of 46 years, Florence. Other survivors include daugh- ters Katherine Douglass of Rosamond, California and Lynn Rolfson-Brown of Huntington Beach; sons Eric Brown of Bend, Oregon and Robin Brown of Mt. Hood, Oregon; sister Marie Scovell of Quincy, Cali-
fornia. Ed had four grandchil- dren and many friends and loved ones.

Ora Lee Craig
Private arrangements were made for Ora Lee Craig who passed away on December 21, 1996, in Onyx, California. There will be no services and her ashes will bè scattered at sea.
Ora Lee was born Novem- ber 14, 1910 in Cairo, Illinois. She moved to Los Angeles in 1944 and was employed at the San Fernando Veterans Admin- istration Hospital as a personal secretary to the Chief of the Engineering Division. She re- tired in 1970 and remained in the Los Angeles area until 1978 when she moved to Onyx.
She cared deeply about the - environment and wildlife. Ora Lee was an accomplished bird watcher and in her later years she made her yard into a virtual bird sanctuary.
Ora Lee made many friends in the Kern River Valley and she will be missed. She was preceded in death by her par- ents and three sisters. She is survived by her adopted family, Marie Koonce of Onyx, Linda Howe of Santa Cruz and Alyssa Howe of San Francisco.

Ramon Keith Hinds, M.D.
Dr. Ramon Keith Hinds, M.D., was born October 16, 1930 in Guymon, Oklahoma and received his education in Oklahoma schools. and Wentworth Military School in Missouri. He entered Tulane University Medical School and graduated. He did his residency in Kansas City, Missouri. He came to California and started his practice in Bakersfield in 1962.
He was a colonel as a medi- cal doctor in the U.S. Air Force, and later affiliating with Califor- nia Reserves. Dr. Hinds was a private pilot and was a F.F.A. Medical Examiner. He was a member of the F.O. Eagles Aerie No. 93, Frontier Days, the Loyal Order of Moose Lodge No. 498, Kern River Valley Elks Lodge No. 2358, Kern County Sheriff's Mounted Posse Vol- unteers. He was also a 32nd Degree Mason in the Guymon,
Oklahoma Lodge and a mem- ber of the American Medical Association, the Southern Medi- cal Association and many other civic and fraternal organiza- tions.
Dr. Hinds is survived by his beloved wife, Dee Ann Hinds; his sons, Ramon Keith Hinds, Leo Hinds, John Hinds, Robbie Lee Hinds, Daniel Hinds and Christopher Hinds; also four stepsons, all of Bakersfield; a sister, Fern Lane, of Amarillo, Texas; two grandchildren and five step-grandchildren.
At Dr. Hinds' request, there is to be no services or memori- als. Cremation will be held in the Mish Funeral Home crema- torium. The family requests in lieu of flowers that donations may be made to the Shriners Crippled Children's Hospital.
Eva Loretta Berg
Services were held in the Rose Chapel, Lake Isabella Funeral Home, on Friday, De- cember 27, 1996, for Eva Loretta Berg. She passed away at her home in Long Beach, California, on December 21, 1996, with family members at her side.
Eva was born in Fort Smith, Arkansas on August 29, 1939. She married James Allen Berg in Las Vegas, Nevada. They resided in Garden Grove, Cali- fornia, and together they had planned to retire to Bodfish where they owned property and would build their retirement home.
She was an upbeat, caring, loving person who took great joy in her family and especially her grandchildren. She faced her long illness with dignity and faith that she would see her loved ones again in heaven.
Eva's husband, Jim, pre- ceded her in death on July 19, 1995. She is survived by her son, James Jr., of Lakewood; daughter Loretta of Garden Grove; nine grandchildren; her mother-in-law Evå Berg of Bod- fish; brothers-in-law Edgar and William; William's wife Marcia; many nieces and nephews, cousins and many, many friends. All who knew Eva will
remember her for her loyalty, faith, and loving nature. She will be greatly missed by all.

Alton Lewis
Services were held at Conrad-Carroll Mortuary Chapel on Monday, January 6, 1997, at 2 p.m. for Mr. Alton Lewis of Wofford Heights, age 81. Officiating was Pastor Tracy Cook. Private inurnment fol- lowed.
Mr. Lewis was born March 18, 1915 in Mill Creek, Okla- homa, and passed away on January 1, 1997 in Oxnard, California, after a brief illness.
He served on the Oxnard Police Department from 1941 until 1950. Then he was the General Manager for the Chase Brothers Dairy for 36 years. After moving to the Kern Val- ley, Mr. Lewis was a volunteer worker at Camp Owen, a Cali- fornia youth authority. He was a Kern County resident for 20 years.
