Lonnie was a good bowler with a high game of 299. He loved to play pool, fish and hunt as well. He was also an extra in the old Western movies where he would wear a white hat and then change to a black one and chase himself. He loved to tell jokes to his family and friends. He was


a member of the Elks and Moose lodges, both in Glendale and the Kern Val- ley


He leaves behind his son, Bill A. Watts of Bodfish, grandson Daryl E. and great-grandson Rob- ert A. Watts of Palmdale; daughter Jo Anne (Jody) Watts and son-in-law Ronald C. Chadduck of Bodfish, grandson Michael A. and wife Karen S., great- grandson Colin A. and great-granddaughter Laura E. Chadduck of Kirkland, Wash .; grandson Russell E. and wife Susan M., great-grandson Brian D. and great-granddaughter Loni Carol (his namesake) Chadduck of Thousand Oaks; his older sister, Eunice Watts Elliot, 92, of Tulare; and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews scattered all up and down California as well as other states.

Sherwood "Bud" A. Wagner


Sherwood "Bud" A. Wagner of Weldon passed away Jan. 21, 2002 at Kern Valley Hospital. He was 80 years old.


He is survived by his wife of 36 years, Karen; his sis- ter, Lorraine H. Marcy of Lake Isabella; his brother, Frederick E. Wagner of Hemet, Calif .; nephews Brian H. Marcy of Southlake and Mark H. Wagner of Garden Grove; and a niece, Reneé Sawyer of Hemet. He was preceded in death by both parents and a nephew, Vincent W. Marcy, Jr.


Bud was born on Nov. 24, 1921 in Elcho, Wis. to Frederick J. and Georgiana Wagner. He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps from 1943 to 1946 as a radio operator. He was an Indus- trial Arts graduate from the Chico. Later he worked in Civil Service as a drafts- man in Hawthorne, Nev., Sierra Vista, Ariz. and Barstow, Calif. until his re- tirement in 1984. He loved family, friends and animals. He and his wife were in- volved in several parades in Nevada, Arizona and the Kern River Valley with their Palominos. His family and friends will feel the loss of him and his dry sense of humor for a long time.

Ruth Solberg


Memorial services were held Jan. 25, 2002 at the Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church for Ruth Solberg, who passed away on Jan. 20, 2002 in Bakers- field. She was a resident of the Kern River Valley for seven years. She was a member of the Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church, Sierra Performing Arts, the Historical Society and the Friends of the Library. She enjoyed singing and play- ing the piano. She spent most of her life in Staten Island, N.Y.


Ruth was preceded in death by her husband of 37 years, Albert Solberg. She is survived by her daugh- ter, Anne Litz of Lake Isabella; daughter and son- in-law Evangeline and Kenny LeFever of New York; son Alvin Solberg and his wife, Helen; her brother John MacPherson Thomson; 10 grandchil- dren; and nine great-grand- children. She will be missed by all.


Arrangements were made by Valley Mortuary of Lake Isabella.


Donald Martin


Donald Martin passed away Jan. 17, 2002 at Bakersfield Memorial Hos- pital.


Don was born Nov. 16, 1935 to George and Helen Martin. Don grew up in Covington, Ohio and gradu- ated from Covington High School in 1954. Later that year he married his wife Dona, who survives. They had three children, Scott of Reno, Nev., Randy of Yorba Linda, Calif. and Sheree of the Kern Valley. Don had two daughters-in-law, Shary of Reno and Mary of Yorba Linda; four grandchildren, Joe, Ryan, Ashley and An- drea; and one sister of Covington, Ohio, Ruby Kingrey.


Don worked for Rogers Drums of Covington from 1954 to 1969. He and his family relocated to Anaheim in 1969 when Rogers Drums became part of CBS. Don retired in 1985. He and his wife moved to the Valley in 1986 and they opened Martin's Rod and Reel in Kernville. They closed the business in 1999.


Don was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church. He was a member and Past Master of the Masonic Lodge and was a writer for the Kern Valley Sun, where he wrote a fishing column.


Don will be sadly missed by his family. Don enjoyed fishing and hunting and all of his friends that he met over the years.


At the request of his fam- ily there will be no public service. At a later date there will be a public memorial.

Jack William "Gankee" Stowe


A private service for fam- ily and friends was held for Jack William Stowe, 80, who passed away Dec. 17, 2001 from a heart illness. He was born May 31, 1921 in Santa Ana, Calif. His loving wife, June, whom he met in high school, survives him after 60 years of marriage. He is also survived by a daughter, Judi, and husband Lonnie Wun, and a son, Tim, as well as four grandchildren, Cynthia, Sandi, Tihoti Goupil and wife Tasea, Titania and husband Jason Williamson who knew and loved him greatly as "Gankee."


He dearly loved his seven great-grandchildren, Kai Mondido, Corey Rule, Makaela, Taiana and Mahina Williamson and Siosi and Vaihere Goupil and many nieces and nephews. Jack also leaves behind sisters- in-law Mary Peters, Jean Kaufman and Della and Randy Fairbanks. His mother, father and brother precede him in passing. Jack joined the Army in 1939, sta- tioned at the Presidio in San Francisco, where he at-


tended Airplane Armory School until shortly after Pearl Harbor when he was transferred to the Air Corps and sent overseas to the China Burma India Theater. Jack was honorably dis- charged in 1945 after six years of service for his coun- try. Jack received medals in Expert Thompson Submachine Gun, Good Conduct, Asiatic Pacific Campaign, and a Distin- guished Unit badge.


He returned to Southem California and worked as an inspector of roads and bridges for Orange County, Los Angeles County and the City of Long Beach.


He retired in 1972 and moved to Northern Califor- nia where he and his wife operated a dairy for several years. For the past 15 years Jack spent his free and happy time carving beautiful and unusual items for the home and garden.


Jack and June moved to Lake Isabella three years ago, enjoying complete re- tirement in Mountain Mesa, continuing his woodwork and enjoying fishing, camping and boating with friends, neighbors and family.


Jack was a wonderful man and will be forever loved and remembered by all who knew him. He will be interred in the United States Veterans Cemetery in Loma Linda, Calif. with full honors.

Solomon Henry Hall


Solomon (Hank) Hall was bom in Pikesville, Ky. on April 5, 1932 to John M. and Mabel Hall. He passed away at his home on Jan. 19, 2002 after a brief illness.


He and his wife Marcella moved to Bodfish from Burbank in 1995.


Hank is survived by his wife of 36 years, Marcella; five sisters, Lorene Hayden, Shirley Milkoff, Charlotte Kingsbury and Juanita Olinger, all of whom live in Bullhead City, Ariz., and Levaun Spinner of Clifton, Va .; and one brother, An- drew J. Hall of North Caro- lina.


Hank was preceded in death by his mother, an older sister, Loretta Jones, and a stepson, Anthony W. Mo- rales.


A Christian memorial Mass was celebrated at St. Jude Catholic Church in Wofford Heights on Jan. 26, 2002 with the Rev. Ron Seidel officiating.


Interment will be at Kem River Valley Cemetery.


He will be missed.

Lorraine Sangster


Lorraine Sangster of Wofford Heights, born Lorraine Taylor on Sept. 10, 1921, in Winfield, Kan., passed away on Jan. 8, 2002.


Beloved wife of Ralph for the past 63 years and the loving mother of Ralph, Jr., Gary and Sonie, Lorraine was also considered to be the best mother-in-law in the world by Denny. Her seven grandchildren and 12 great- grandchildren will dearly miss her. Many more friends and family will remember her for her warm, loving person- ality and ready smile.


At the age of five, Lorraine moved to Borger, Texas, where she met and fell in love with Ralph when they attended rival high schools. They drove across the state line to elope on July 4, 1938.


After their second child was born, the Sangsters moved to California and found a home in Compton where they lived for over 25 years. During that time, Lorraine was a supportive wife and mother, raising a happy and healthy family. She was awarded a lifetime membership in the PTA and happily led the Brownie troop.


Lorraine was an artist. She enjoyed ceramics, hand quilting, painting, sewing, needlework and upholster- ing furniture- talents that have been passed on to her daughter and grandchildren. Lorraine and Ralph moved to Wofford Heights after they retired in 1977. During her . time in the Valley, she made many wonderful friends and participated in various clubs.


Lorraine will be missed and remembered by all that knew her and loved her.


Marjorie Virginia Silsby


Marjorie Virginia Silsby, 77, passed away peacefully at home in Bodfish on Jan. 21, 2002 after a battle with bone cancer.


Marjorie was born in Chi- cago on June 24, 1924. She was a retired nurse employed by the San Diego County Health Dept. She lived in the Kem Valley eight years. She belonged to the Christian Assembly of Mountain Mesa.


She was married for 54 years to S.E. Silsby, who passed away Dec. 27, 2001. She is survived by children Charles M. Silsby of Bodfish, Ford T. Silsby of Bodfish, and Celeste Camey of Val- ley Center; five grandchil- dren; and a younger brother, Frank Hines of Roselle, III.


Marjorie will be buried in Darwin, Calif. There will be a memorial service on Feb. 2, 2002 at Christian Assembly in Mountain Mesa with Pas-

William Arnold Atwood


A memorial was held Jan. 30, 2002 at Valley Mortu- ary for William Arnold Atwood. William was born Aug. 10, 1919 in Cornwall, Vermont, the son of Arnold and Ethel (Williams) Atwood, and passed away Jan. 26 at his home in Lake Isabella.


William and Lorraine Davies were married on July 3, 1965 in Santa Bar- bara and she survives, along with his brother and sister-in-law Wright and Marian Atwood; niece Susie Atwood; and nephew Scott Atwood.


William was a veteran of World War II and served in the Army Air Corps. He was a sergeant in the 78th Ser- vice Squadron, 101 and 82 Airborne in the European Theater. He was a life mem- ber of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 7665 here in Lake Isabella. The VFW Honor Guard performed the military service and the buf- fet was held at the Post after the service. He was interred at Rose Hills Cem- etery in Whittier.

Cynthia Isaacs


Private arrangements were made for Cynthia Isaacs, who passed away at her home on Jan. 24, 2002. Cynthia was born Jan. 23, 1936 in South Port, England. She lived in Kern County for the past 25 years. She loved to quilt, sew and cook. Cynthia and her huband Leslie enjoyed bowling before his death. In the last few years she liked to read and tape her favorite movies. Cynthia is survived by her father, Mat- thew Cowell of East Londo, South Africa; her mother, Josie Findley of the United Kingdom; her brother, David Cowell, who traveled here from the UK; and her brother-in-law and wife Hubert and Mable Isaacs of Bakersfield and her long- time companion, Anita Carrington of Lake Isabella, who was like a sister.


Arrangements were handled by Valley Mortu- ary of Lake Isabella.


Martha Frances `Brindley


Funeral services were held Feb. 13, 2002 at Val- ley Mortuary Chapel for Martha Frances Brindley. Officiating were Pastors Gary Nichols and Dan Hellyer of the Christian As- sembly.


Martha was born to Elbert and Tina Thompson on March 24, 1918 in Ruther- ford, Tern. and went to be with the Lord on Feb. 7, 2002 in Mountain Mesa af- ter a long battle with can- cer.


Martha was a resident of the Kern River Valley for 34 years and worked for Com- munity First Bank and the Community Credit Union. She was a charter member of the Eastern Star for 53 years. Her hobbies were needlepoint, crocheting, embroidery and knitting.


She was preceded in death by her husband, Vem Franklin Brindley, in 1998. She is survived by her three brothers-in-law, Dennis, Charley and Richard Brindley, and her church family and friends.

William H. Merrell


Graveside services were held on Jan. 23, 2002 for our husband, our father, our grandfather, our friend- William H. "Bill" Merrell of Bodfish.


Bill was born on Aug. 2, 1931 in Birmingham, Ala. and passed away on Jan. 16, 2002 in Mountain Mesa after a long battle with dia- betes.


Bill was a Korean War veteran, having done his tour of duty with the U.S. Navy.


Bill moved to Bodfish in 1974, along with his par- ents, who have both pre- ceded him in death. He had numerous jobs in the Kern Valley, including working for the Kern Valley Sun and the Ridgecrest Daily Inde- pendent, which is where he met his wife of 23 years, Jeanne.


Bill went on to open his own saw sharpening busi- ness, which remained open until his illness got progres- sively worse approximately four years ago.


He loved collecting guns and had a collection to be proud of. He was a member of the NRA.


He leaves behind his wife, Jeanne, son and daughter-in-law Tom and Tammy Holcomb, daughter Kelly Folstad and her hus- band Brian, and a sister-in- law, Patsy Perkins, all of Bodfish; four step-children and spouses, Kim Aguilar and husband Joe of Canoga Park, Lynn Kaman and hus- band Doug of Clyde, Ohio, Steve Ruley and wife Sherry of Henderson, Nev. and Rick Ruley of Bakers- field.


He had 13 grandchildren, one great-grandchild and two more who will be born in a few months, and nu- merous friends.


He will be greatly missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing him.

Robert Lee Eubanks


Robert Lee Eubanks (Dad, Daddy, Pops, Grandpa, Bob), 76, was born Dec. 16, 1925 in In- dianapolis, Ind., and de- parted Jan. 17, 2002, at which time he was residing in Mountain Mesa.


He was a loving husband, father, stepfather, grandfa- ther, great-grandfather, brother and friend to many. Robert was a veteran, hav- ing served in the U.S. Army and also the U.S. Marine Corps. Everyone who knew him was touched by him and learned from him. He will be greatly missed and remembered forever. It is with heavy hearts that we say goodbye. Hopefully we can all honor his life by be- ing loving, caring and for- giving individuals. God will- ing we will get to see him again in the Kingdom of our Lord.


He is survived by his wife, Ethel of Mountain Mesa; son Francis (Jolly) Eubanks of California Hot Springs; daughter Laura· Lee (Eubanks) Faricelli of Long Beach; son Raymond Eubanks of Plainfield, Ind .; stepdaughter Vickie Derington of California Hot Springs; five stepsons, Bill Gibson of Oakdale, Ill., Rick Gibson of Canebrake, Ron Gibson of Carpenteria, Gary Gibson of Lake Isabella and Harry Gibson


of Canebrake; the children's spouses; at last count, over 50 grandchil- dren and great-grandchil- dren; two brothers, Donald Eubanks of Benton, Ky. and Eugene Eubanks of Monrovia, Ind .; and many friends.


Memorial services will be held Feb. 16, 2002 at 11 a.m. at Kern Christian Church "The River" at 14900 Highway 178 in Southlake. Services will be conducted by Pastor Michael Splawn. Members of the VFW Color Guard in Lake Isabella will attend the memorial service to pay trib- ute to their fellow veteran.


Following the services the Eagles Women's Auxil- iary No. 3156 will be host- ing a potluck at the Eagles Lodge, 12251 Highway 178 in Mountain Mesa.


Madrid Marie "Maude" Barr


Madrid Marie "Maude" Barr passed away on Jan. 24, 2002. She was born Dec. 30, 1918 'in St. Martinville, La.


She was a housewife, a 40-year visitor to Old and New Kernville and a 16-year resident of Wofford Heights. She was a member of the Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church, the Women of the Moose, the Elks, and TOPS.


She is predeceased by her husband, Robert "Buck" Barr. She is survived by seven children, Robert, David, Alan, Clark, Debra, Denise and Larry; six grand- children, Michael, Brandon, Summerly, Brian, Jared and Kalle; sister Wanda and brother Elmo; and compan- ion Fred.


She was an amazing mother, sister and friend who was loved by all and will be missed by all.


Services were held Jan. 28, 2002 in Laguna Hills, officiated by Rev. Paul Uhlar. Burial took place at El Toro Cemetery in Lake Forest.

Margaret Elizabeth Yaeger


Margaret Elizabeth Yaeger went to her eternal rest Feb. 9, 2002 in Lake Isabella at the age of 85.


She was born to Christine Madelyn O'Brien and Will- iam Patrick Toland on Aug. 23, 1916 in Boston, Mass. In 1937 she married Albert Jo- seph Yaeger, who preceded her in death in 1991.


Margaret and Albert moved to Southern Califor- nia in 1955 with their four daughters and settled in the San Fernando Valley, where she was employed by Lockheed for many years. In 1976 they moved to Lake Isabella and spent some traveling with the Elks camp- ing club, The Wheels. They also had become socially connected with the Kern River Valley Sidewalk CBers, where they became known as "Kahlua King" and "Kahlua Queen."


Margaret liked to sew and crochet and tend to her roses. She was also very fond of her fruit trees and enjoyed canning the fruit they bore.


She also enjoyed writing poetry and in 1955 became involved with the Kern Val- ley Poets and Writers Club, and had some of her accom- plishments published.


Margaret leaves behind four daughters and sons-in- law, Karen and Henry Ridgway, Janice and Don Westphal, and Susan and Ed Eickhoff, all of Lake Isabella, and Gretchen and John Ruiz of Yucca Valley. There are also 11 grandchil- dren; 14 great-grandchil- dren; and one great-great- grandchild. She is also sur- vived by a sister, Rita Kelley of Canyon Country; and sev- eral nieces and nephews.


There will be a memorial service at 1 p.m. on March 2 at the Kern Valley VFW Post 7665 in Lake Isabella:

James R. Downs


James R. Downs, 79, passed away Feb. 7, 2002 in Wofford Heights. He was born Dec. 18, 1922 in Frederick, Okla.


He was a loving father, grandfather, great-grandfa- ther, uncle and friend. He dedicated 24 years of his life to a career in the U.S. Air Force. He retired in 1969 to enjoy his favorite hobby of fishing. This is how he came to live in this valley for 28 years. He was one hell of a fisherman! He had a won- derful sense of humor that he would always share. If you had the pleasure of being his friend you were always en- tertained by him not to men- tion he was always willing to help out no matter how big or small the task. When he could no longer go fishing, his hobby became drinking cof- fee and smoking cigarettes at local diners. This is how he · established many long and lasting friendships.


He is survived by Gloria Morris, a dear friend and the mother of his six surviving children: sons Bill, Robert, and Richard Downs, all of San Bernardino, and daugh- ters Carol Cooper of River- side, and Freda Downs and Barbara Reymer of San Ber- nardino; seven grandchil- dren and two great-grand- children; his brother Bill Downs of Texas and sister Barbara Tindell of California. He leaves behind many friends, with special thanks to Cheryl's Diner and Frank's Diner for just being there for him!


Services are pending and will be held at Riverside Na- tional Cemetery in Riverside, Calif.


He will be missed by many.

Jack R. Beaton, Sr.


Memorial services will be held at a later date for Jack R. Beaton, Sr., who passed away at home after a long illness on Feb. 13, 2002. Jack was born in Redford Township, Mich., on Feb. 2, 1942, and moved here to the Kern River Valley from Garden Grove. He pur- chased the Kernville Garage in 1978, and operated it for 25 years. He enjoyed boat- ing and "pretending to fish," but most of all, he loved play- ing with his grandchildren. He was truly a people per- son. He was a member of the Moose Lodge as well as the Elks Lodge. He is sur- vived by his wife of 40 years, Barbara; his son and daugh- ter-in-law Jack Jr. and Laurie Beaton of Bakersfield; son Tom Beaton of Wofford Heights; four grandchildren, Adam, Sarah, Jake and Delaney; and his brother, Donald Beaton of Weldon.


He will truly be missed by all those who knew him and loved him. Services arranged by Valley Mortuary of Lake Isabella.


Bradley Halver


A military service was held on Feb. 11, 2002 at 1 p.m. in Valley Mortuary Chapel for Bradley Halver, who was born Oct. 7, 1943 in Los An- geles, and passed away on Feb. 5, 2002 at his son's home in Bakersfield. He was the son of Raymond and Marian (Bradley) Halver.


Bradley Halver married Gloria Hallabrin on Sept. 13, 1963 in Oxnard, and she sur- vives, along with sons Steven and Daniel Halver; daughters Deanna Halver, Mamie Hart, and Julia and her husband Frank; a sister, Karen; 13 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. Bradley served his country in the Navy, beginning in 1962, for four years, six months.


Military funeral service provided by the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Post 7665, Honor Guard. Bradley will be greatly missed by his fam- ily and friends, and was a wonderful husband and fa- ther. Arrangements by Val- ley Mortuary, Lake Isabella.


Camille Marie Bruster


Private arrangements have been made for Camille Marie Bruster, who passed away on Feb. 14, 2002 at the Skilled Nursing Center in Mountain Mesa after a long illness. Camille was born Dec. 25, 1914 in Brooklyn, N.Y. She and her husband moved to the Kern River Valley in 1977. She was a member of the Lake Isabella Horseshoe Club and the Golf Club. She also enjoyed sew- ing and doing beadwork. She and her husband of 53 years, Howard, enjoyed traveling together and took many cruises.


· She is survived by her hus- band, Howard Bruster of Wofford Heights; daughter and son-in-law DeDe Bruster and Phil Cohen of Moorpark, Calif .; daughter Margie Kersey of Tucson, Ariz .; six grandchildren; five great- grandchildren; her brother, Adolph Bayer; and two nieces.


She will be greatly missed. Arrangements were made with Valley Mortuary of Lake Isabella.

William Russell Kaderley


Funeral services were held Feb. 22, 2002 at the Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church for William Russell Kaderley. Officiating was Pastor Gene Bush.


William was born April 5, 1916 in Jasper, Mo. and passed away on Feb. 16,- 2002 in Bakersfield.


William moved to the Kern River Valley 27 years ago from Venice, Calif. after re- tiring. He enjoyed fishing, bowling and gardening, and he especially enjoyed time with his grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mable, in 1997. He is survived by his son, Russell Kaderley of Bodfish; daughter Patsy and son-in- law Michael Stroud of Lake Havasu City; daughter Nancy and son-in-law Kirkland Tracy of Charlottesville, Va .; seven grandchildren; nine great- grandchildren; one great- great-grandson; two broth- ers, Jim and Richard Kaderley; and a sister, Mayme Dennis. William will be missed by all.


In lieu of flowers, dona- tions may be made to the Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church in Lake Isabella. Arrangements were made with Valley Mortuary of Lake Isabella.


Floyd Milton "Butch"


Wiseman


A longtime resident of Squirrel Valley, Butch Wiseman passed away on Feb. 20, 2002 at the age of 59. Butch is survived by his wife of 39 years, Linda; his four children, Becky, Rob- ert, Mendy and Donald; and five grandchildren, Hannah, John, Allie, Beau and Sarah. He was a wonderful hus- band, father and grandfather who will be dearly missed by family and friends alike.


Angela Maria Foster-Skates


Angela Maria Foster- Skates was taken from her loved ones on Feb. 17, 2002. She was riding in a vehicle and was thrown from it as it rolled several times. She was traveling just past old Kern Canyon Road heading towards Bakersfield on the 178 free- way. She was taken to Kern Medical Center where she passed away an hour later. She was 24.


She leaves behind two sons, Tyler and Michael, and their father, Mike Fos- ter. Also surviving her is her husband, Russell Skates; three brothers and three sisters in Wofford Heights; her parents, Rob- ert and Charlotte Whittington; and her grand- parents, Charles and Marion Jones of Weldon.


Angie was a vibrant per- son full of life and fun. She was a popular bartender at many local area bars. She loved to fish and to be with the ones who loved her.


She will be greatly missed and remembered always with laughter in our hearts.
