Mamie Ethel Davis
Graveside services will be held today, Feb. 7, 2001 at 1 p.m. at Kern River Valley Cemetery for Marie Ethel Davis. Officiating will be Pas- tor Bill Blanton.
Mamie was born Nov. 1, 1922 in Spiro, Okla. and passed away on Feb. 2, 2001 in Mountain Mesa.
Mamie moved to California in 1942 with her husband Charlie. They lived near Arvin until they moved to Oxnard in 1948 where she started work- ing for Port Hueneme High School. She worked there for 15 years.
She and Charlie moved to the Kern River Valley in 1981. She enjoyed camping and crocheting. She was a great mom and a loving wife.
Mamie was preceded in death by her husband Charlie and son Charles. She is sur- vived by her loving daughter, Barbara; sister-in-law Agnes Boling; granddaughter Windy; great-grandson Logan; and many nieces and nephews. She will be greatly missed.

Para "Roberta" Christopher
Roberta Christopher en- tered life on April 28, 1920, in Pendleton, Ore. In her life, Roberta attended college and eventually entered the world
of personal and business banking, going to work for Security Pacific Bank as an operations specialist. In her spare time, she enjoyed golf and traveling. Traveling was natural for Roberta, as she served as the national presi- dent of the Sigma Tau Psi sorority. In her travels, she managed to visit all 50 states as well as Canada, with her husband of 21 years, Allen.
Moving from Glendale, Ca- lif., Roberta, Allen and their only son, Carl, moved to the Kern River Valley in 1977, settling down in Kernville. Once here in our valley, Roberta continued being ac- tive in her sorority, playing golf, and taking care of her beloved family. Some time ago, however, she fell ill, and in the early morning hours of Jan. 19, 2001, Roberta passed away and went home to be with her maker. Memo- rial services were held on Jan. 25, 2001 at the Valley Mortu- ary Chapel in Lake Isabella. Officiating was Pastor Bill Lewis of the Weldon Baptist Church. Roberta's national sorority sisters were in atten- dance and they gave a final lasting memorial tribute to Roberta and her dedication to her family, sorority and friends. Roberta will be truly missed by her loving family, and her absence will be felt by all of those whose lives she touched.
Para Roberta Christopher is survived by her son, Carl Christopher, and his wife Angella, both of Bakersfield; and by her two grandchildren, Eric and Ashley Christopher of Bakersfield. She was pre- deceased by her husband, Allen Christopher, in 1982.

Donald Clayton Hoffman, Sr.
Conald Clayton Hoffman, 9 .. was bom in Peoria, III. Aug. 8, 1929 and passed away 0- Feb. 8, 2001 at his resi- lance in Wofford Heights, sur- cunded by his loving family. Donald is survived by his vite of 45 years, Sondra Monene Hoffman; brother Christopher J. Hoffman II; son Clayton Donald Hoffman Jr. and his wife Johnel Marie Hoffman; and son John Phillip Hoffman. Donald was pre- csded in death by son James (J' me') Bartley Hoffman.
Donald resided in the Kem River Valley with his family in Vofford Heights since 1974. His career started with sales in the cosmetic industry in the 1560s, then on to recreational vehicle supplies and awning sales with Shasta and Carter Shade, where he received rec- ognition as one of the nation's top 10 salespersons. In 1975 he became the manager of Rick Kieffe's Autohaus, for- merly located on Lake Isabella Boulevard, which he operated until his retirement in 1980.
He was a member of the Moose at one time, a member in good standing of the Wofford Heights Elks Lodge, a member of the Disabled American Veterans organiza- tion, as well as the American Legion, and at one time served as a volunteer in the Kern County Sheriff's Department Search and Rescue unit.
Private arrangements were made by the family. Well-wish- ers are invited to make dona- tions to the American Cancer Society, which provides re- search and assistance to fami- lies of cancer patients, located at 1523 California Ave., Bakersfield CA 93304.

Robert Ivan Miller
Robert Ivan Miller was born Jan. 6, 1917 in Gibon, Neb. to Francis Miller and Edna Ethyl Bolan Miller, and passed away Feb. 4, 2001.
Prior to retiring, he worked for the VA as a dietitian. He also served in the infantry and Army Air Corps during WWil. Robert was a 12-year resident of the San Fernando Valley, and spent the last 22 years as a resident of Lake Isabella. Robert was an active member of the Odd Fellows. in the Kernville lodge.
Robert is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Ruth Miller of Lake Isabella; daugh- ters Barbara Olson of Simi Valley and Pat Freeman and husband Kenn of Ventura; grandsons Christopher Flores and his wife Bonnie and Craig Flores and his wife Irene, all of Los Angeles; brother Warren Miller of Nebraska; and sister Evelyn Robertson of San Di- ego.
No public ceremonies will be held at Robert's request.

Merle Dean Stephens
Beloved son, father, grand- father and great-grandfather, Merle Dean Stephens, 69, passed away peacefully Jan. 20, 2001 after a courageous battle with cancer, surrounded by his family. He was a loving father and grandfather.
Merle was born May 16,1931 in Ocean Park, Calif. to Duard John and Alba Eliza- beth Stephens. He married JoAnne LaJoie in Van Nuys in June 1956, later divorced. He was proud of his service in the U.S. Air Force and after col- leye spent his working years with North American Rockwell Rocketdyne and Simplex Time Recorder. Merle loved to fish and hunt and was a lifetime member of the NRA.
Merle is survived by his mother, daughter Irene Stephens-Mosier and son An- drew Lance Stephens. He is also survived by five grand- daughters, one grandson and one great-granddaughter. He was preceded in death by his father and brother James Eu- gene Stephens.
A Funeral Mass was held Feb. 3, 2001 at St. Mary's in Ogden, Utah. Merle was cre- mated at his request.
Judy Shery Hedges
Funeral services were held Feb. 8, 2001 at Valley Mortu- ary Chapel for Judy Shery Hedges. Officiating was Pas- tor Bill Lewis of the Weldon Baptist Church. Interment fol- lowed at the Kern River Valley Cemetery in Wofford Heights.
Judy was bom Aug. 25, 1950 in Torrance and went home to be with the Lord on Feb. 5, 2001 in Mountain Mesa. Judy moved here 40 years ago with her par- ents and lived in Weldon all that time. She enjoyed camping, fish- ing, traveling and music. She was a happy and loving daugh- ter and the family called her "the Moming Glory Kid."
She is survived by her fa- ther, Walter Hedges of Weldon; her brother and sister-in-law John and Karin Hedges of Weldon; brother and sister-in- law David and Bonnie Hedges of Riverside; and many nieces and nephews.
She will be greatly missed. Arrangements were made by Valley Mortuary.

Irene Trogdon
Lottie Irene Trogdon en- tered life on April 4, 1907 in DeLand, Ill. Born to her par- ents Ben and Mary Baker, she was raised in Illinois until she moved to Riverside, Calif., where she met and in 1943 married the love of her life, Arnie Trogdon. During the war years, Irene served her coun- try proudly working on the home front at Douglas Aircraft as a "Rosie the Riveter" type of employee, participating in an era of history that later be- came a slice of "Americana." Most of all, however, Irene enjoyed spending time with her husband and family, and being the wonderful homemaker that she was. Irene enjoyed knit- ting, reading, sewing, cooking and especially fishing. In 1970, Irene and Amie retired, picked up their roots in the Los Ange- les area, and replanted them here in the Kern River Valley,settling down in Lake Isabella. Once here, Irene and Arnie were able to continue doing the things that they en- joyed together, as well as be- coming members of the CB club and the Bodfish/Lake Isabella Property Owners As- sociation. They were also able to spend more time with their family and friends. But, as these things do, Irene fell ill and on Feb. 18, 2001, she passed away and went home to be with her maker. Funeral services were held on Feb. 24, 2001 at Valley Mortuary in Lake Isabella, with Pastor Guy Rimestad officiating. A graveside committal service was held shortly after at the Kern River Valley Cemetery in Wofford Heights. She is truly missed by all who knew and loved her.
Lottie Irene Trogdon is sur- vived by her husband of 57 years, Arnie Trogdon of Lake Isabella; her stepchildren Paul, Lee and Betty; her sisters Buelah Primmer and Evelyn Robertson; 12 grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchil- dren. Irene is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-neph- ews. Preceding her in passing are two sisters, Helen and Mary Baker; her brother Harvan and her step-daughter Marjorie.
Services were arranged by Valley Mortuary of Lake Isabella.

Ruth Marsh, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great- grandmother and sister passed away Feb. 17, 2001 in her home.
Ruth was born in Los Ange- les May 3,1927. She lived in Southlake for the past 22 years.
She is survived by her hus- band of 59 years, Carlie Marsh; three daughters: Doris Parks of Southlake, Carla Pratt of Chino Hills and Georgia Ruf of Columbia City, Ind .; and one son, Nelson Marsh of Couer d'Alene, .Idaho. Ruth also leaves 9 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, 2 sis- ters and 2 brothers.
There was a memorial ser- vice Feb. 21.2001. The family would prefer a memorial to the Shriners Hospital in lieu of flowers.

Funeral services were held Feb. 21, 2001 at Valley Mor- tuary Chapel in Lake Isabella for Oliver Shaw. Officiating was Pastor Bert Simpson of Mountain View Southern Bap- tist Church. Interment fol- lowed at Kern River Valley Cemetery.

Oliver was born Greenfield, Mo. and later moved to Pomona, Kan. where he was a dairy farmer for over 25 years before retiring. He also enjoyed gardening. He and his wife Ethel moved to the Kem River Valley in 1999 where they enjoyed the beauty around them and being close to their family. He is preceded in death by his brothers, Howard and Lionel.
He is survived by his wife of 73 years, Ethel, of Weldon; brother Truman Shaw of Long Beach; and sisters Janis Johnson of San Diego and Doris West of Greenfield, Mo. and numerous nieces and nephews.
Arrangements were made by Valley Mortuary of Lake Isabella.
Corrine Stolze Baldner
Corrine Stolze Baldner of Wofford Heights passed away on Feb. 18, 2001 at her home. She is survived by her hus- band, Earl Baldner; her chil- dren, Sandra Simmons of Hanover, Pa., Judith Hodges of Atlanta and Gerald Stolze of Valencia, Calif; Earl's chil- dren, Bruce Baldner of Bakers- field, Mary Beth Bennett of New York City, Kent Baldner of Kalamazoo, Mich. and Alan Baldner of Santa Maria, Calif .; sister Glaytias Wells of Wofford Heights; 20 grand- children; 23 great-grandchil- dren and a host of loving friends.
There was a funeral Mass at St. Jude's Catholic Church in Wofford Heights on Feb. 23, 2001. Interment was at Kern River Valley Cemetery in Wofford Heights.

Dolores Geneva Garrett
Funeral arrangements were made for Dolores Geneva Garrett of Weldon, who passed away Feb. 20, 2001.
Mrs. Garrett was born March 5, 1924 in Clinton, lowa. She was a resident of the Kern River Valley for the past 20 years. She and her husband moved to the valley after their retirement. She was a chef for over 30 years. She enjoyed crocheting and knitting and was a member of the VFW and the South Fork Woman's Club.
She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 52 years, Harry, in October 2000. She is survived by her sister- in-law Mardella and her hus- band Raleigh King of Eldora, lowa; brother-in-law William and his wife Beverly Garrett of Riverside; sister-in-law Nelda Densmore of San Jose; and many nieces and nephews and friends. She will be missed by all.

Richard Lee Reynolds
Richard Lee Reynolds was born in Mandan, N.D. on Au- gust 3, 1933 and passed away Feb. 18, 2001 at his home in Weldon after a fight with can- cer.
Richard retired from the Navy after 20 years. He also worked as a welder and truck driver after his Navy service. Richard (Dick) was an active member of the Eagles lodge and the VFW.
Richard is survived by his wife of 37 years, Esther; step- son Walter Wright; 4 grand- children, 3 great-grandchil- dren; 5 brothers; 3 sisters; several brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law; nephews; nieces; and many friends.
Richard was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers.
Cremation took place and there will be no services at the request of the family.
Gary Wayne Sarvis
Gary Wayne Sarvis was born Nov. 27, 1944 and passed away Jan.18, 2001 of a heart aneurysm.
Gary left behind his loving wife of 34 years, Lucille Bernice Sarvis, his two won- derful children, Carolyn Nadine Sarvis-Baker (grandkids Kevin and Brittany Baker) and Pamela Suzanne Sarvis- McCoy (husband Mark McCoy, and his three cats, Bridget, Patches and Big Guy. He is also survived by his brother-in-law, Mason Robert Wilson Jr .; two sisters-in-law, Terry Tyner and Deborah Walser; and mother and fa- ther-in-law Lucille Bemice and Lee Laitz.
It is a time of sorrow, but a sigh of relief that Gary is no longer suffering. Gary was a special personwho was loved very much by his family and friends.

Blanche Loraine Lewes was bom July 17, 1912 in Lorraine, Calif. Blanch was the first girl born there. She passed away on Feb. 27, 2001 at Loma Linda University Medical Cen- ter.
She is survived by her spouse and family. A memo- rial will be held for family and friends.
Wahneetah Trovillion Harmack Donaldson
Wahneeta Donaldson passed away on Feb. 22, 2001. She slipped away dur- ing a blissful aftemoon slum- ber to the heaven of which she so often dreamed.
She lived a long, happy and exceedingly productive life: a mother of three, the loss of one she mourned deeply until her final day on this earth; the grandmother of seven and great-grandmother of two. In addition, she was a life-long scholar, a notable poet, a sis- ter, a Sunday School teacher, a mentor, a loving wife, a sav- ior of abandoned animals, a fantastic cook, a devoted friend, a stunningly beautiful woman, a dedicated corre- spondent, a family historian, a gentle caregiver, a devout Christian learned of many re- ligions, a cultivator of beauti- ful places and a lover of the earth.
Her family and, friends mourn her loss yet rejoice for the manner of her departure and for her arrival in heaven.
She is survived by two sis- ters, her adoring husband, two sons and numerous grandchil- dren and great-grandchildren.

Lucille was born May 19, 1911 in Creston, lowa and passed away on Feb. 16, 2001 in Mountain Mesa.
She and her loving hus- band of 57 years, John, have lived in the Kern Valley for ten years.
She is survived by her hus- band, John Matthews of Kernville; niece and husband Patricia and John Fruen of Vista, Calif .; niece Linus Ingle of Whittier; and niece and hus- band Emily and Howard Pomeroy of Apple Valley.

Nora Louise Gill
Louise (Lou) Gill was born in Roodhouse, Ill. on Nov. 8, 1937 and passed away on Feb. 11, 2001 at UCLA Can- cer Center after a hard-fought but losing battle with lung cancer. She is survived by her husband of 47 years, Bob; one daughter, Sherry; four · sons, Steven, Michael, Russell and Richard, all of whom live in the L.A. area; her mother Elinor Carmean and sister Barbara Lebro of Kernville; and a brother, Terry Carmean of Alton, III.
She and her husband, Bob, moved to Kernville in 1988 and operated a small busi- ness. Lou was a member of the Kern River Valley Art As- sociation and served as trea- surer and president. She was also a member of the Ladies of the Elks and the Kernville Chamber of Commerce. She was a beloved wife and mother and will be greatly met and married Helen. He is missed.
A memorial service will be performed by the Ladies of the Elks, followed by a lun- of Visalia. Other family in- cheon on March 10, 2001, at cludes Donald McAbee of 11 a.m. at the Elks Lodge in Mojave, Shannon Aurora of Wofford Heights. All her many friends are invited to attend.
Clifford Henry Jones
Clifford was born in Gramby, Mo. on Feb. 4, 1925 to parents Darius and Jessie Jones. He was home schooled by his father. At the age of 16 he joined the Navy, and was discharged with hon- ors in 1945 at China Lake Naval Weapons Center after serving 18 months active duty in WWII. He served in both theaters during the war.
Clifford married Joyce R. Wilson when he was 20 years young, and to that union was born two sons, Clifford N. and Keith Jones. They adopted a daughter, Deborah R. Jones, who preceded him in death. Clifford was a professional auto body repairman for over 50 years. He had a shop in Wofford Heights for 24 years and finally retired to enjoy his time. His first wife passed away from cancer. He later survived by his wife Helen and two sons, Clifford Jones of Oklahoma and Keith Jones
Missouri and Linda Burton of Mesa, Ariz .; 10 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. Clifford will be greatly missed.
Services were entrusted to the Bonewell Family of the Lake Isabella Funeral Home.
U. Grant Hall
U. Grant Hall was born on July 10, 1922 and passed on Feb. 22, 2001 at his home in Wofford Heights. He is sur- vived by his loving wife of 54 years, Jean Hall; son Michael Hall and daughter-in-law Judy Hall of Huntington Beach; and grandchildren Michael Brian Hall and Tina LeClerq.
Grant served four years in the Air Force. His American flag was put out every mom- ing and taken in at sundown, weather permitting. Grant re- tired from I.T.T. in Southern California. Grant and Jean moved to the Valley in 1974 and worked for the school dis- trict. Grant drove the school bus. He was a quiet man, very helpful, giving and loving to his wife, neighbors and friends. To the people at Burlington Assisted Living, Grant will not be dropping by magazines to you any more; he enjoyed you very much. Remember see- ing a green car or blue truck that went 10 mph with a golden lab and a big sheepdog in the back? That was our Grant. He will be missed by all who knew him.

Fred Dodds
Fred Dodds passed away at Kern Valley Hospital on March 5, 2001, with his family close by his side.
Visitation for Fred was held at Valley Mortuary on March 8 and o from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. each day. Funeral services were held on March 10, 2001, at 10 a.m. at the Highland Chapel United Methodist Church in Lake Isabella, with Pastor Mark Buenafe officiat- ing. A graveside committal fol- lowed at Kern River Valley Cemetery in Wofford Heights.
Fred was bom on June 1, 1920, in Dallas, S.D. In 1946 Fred arrived at a beautiful place on the Kern River best known as Miracle Hot Springs, with his bride Ruby, and decided to call it home.
Fred Dodds gave gener- ously to the Kern Valley. Fred was a trustee and member of the Board of Directors at Kern Valley Hospital from 1968 through 2000. He was a Life Member of the V.F.W. Post 7665 and was a past com- mander of District 10 and also District Commander. He was Past Commander and Past District Commander of the DAV. He also belonged to the American Legion. He was a member of the KRV Historical Society, the Lake Isabella- Bodfish Property Owners and the Highland Chapel church.
Fred is survived by his wife of 56 years, Ruby, his sons Michael and Randy and daugh- ter Colleen, and his son-in-law Richard Brun. He is also sur- vived by four grandchildren, Debra Cook, Jamie Neill and Sheena and Ryan Dodds; five great-grandchildren, Michael, Tessa, Tara, Branden and Alyssa; and his sister Mabel Heitman of Anaheim. He was preceded in death by his mother and father, George and May Dodds; sisters Ruth, Flo- rence and Lucille; and broth- ers Wallace, Albert and Ray.
Memorial donations can be made to the Kern Valley Hos- pital Foundation.

Bernice Juanita Smith
Funeral services were held on March 9, 2001 at Mt. View Southern Baptist Church for Bemice J. Smith. Officiating was Pastor Preston North. Interment followed at Kern River Valley Cemetery in Wofford Heights.
Bernice was born March 18, 1931 in Colliersville, Tenn, and went to be with the Lord on March 6, 2001 in Mountain Mesa. Bemice was a resident of the Kem River Valley for. the past 23 years. She enjoyed play- ing the guitar and garage-sale- ing and her doll collection. Her marrage to Jay B. was vibrant and happy. They enjoyed spending time together.
She was preceded in death by her daughter, Brenda, in 1999. Bernice is survived by her loving husband, Jay B. Smith of Wofford Heights; her daughters Linda Hunt of Texas, Arlene Watson and her husband George of Bakers- field and Robin Moore and her husband Jerry of Bakersfield; eight grandchildren; five great- grandchildren; and her brother and sister Dave and Mae of Tennessee. Bemice will be missed by all who knew her.

Joel D. Moore
Private arrangements were made for Joel D. Moore, who passed away March 1, 2001at his home in Weldon. Joel was best known in the Valley for his expert masonry work, which he has done for the last 35 years.
Born in Bell, Calif., Joel was 72 years old.
He is survived by his wife, Pat Moore; sons Don, Steve and Chris Moore; daughter . Pam Franks; grandchildren Eric, Tami, Brandon and Am- ber Moore and Chad Franks; and five great-grandchildren.

Guy LeRoy Chancey
Guy LeRoy Chancey, be- loved husband and father, was bom in Bryant, Okla. on Sept. 26, 1916 and passed away March 7, 2001. Guy is sur- vived by his wife of 61 years, Angelina of Mountain Mesa; daughter Trina Craddock of Lake Isabella; grandson Skyler Craddock of Lake Isabella; son Bruce Chancey; brothers Ted and Donald Chancey; and many nieces and nephews. Funeral services were held March 13, 2001 at the Ma- sonic Temple in Kernville.
Guy and Angelina have been residents of Mountain Mesa for the last 20 years. Guy was a Past Master of the Kem River Valley Masonic Lodge, a mém- ber of the Al Malaikah Shrine Club and Ambassador to the Al Malaikah Potentate, a member of the Bakersfield Scottish Rite, Grand Lectern to the Grand Royal Arch Masons, and be- longed to many other organiza- tions.
