Medical Society from 1840 till his death. He came to Lexington in 1840 and established a reputation as a skilful practi- tioner in his profession. He was a man of decided personality, plain speech, strict honesty, and of kind and generous impulses.

CUTLER
1. JAMES1 CUTLER, of Sprawston, a suburb of Norwich, England, an early settler in Lexington, came from Watertown, and located near the Bedford line. His house was one of the first built. He died 17 July 1694, aged 88. His will, dated 25 Nov. 1684, presented to the court by his sons John and Thomas, proved 20 Aug. 1694, mentioned his children James, Thomas, John, John Coller, Richard Park's wife, John Parmenter's wife, Sarah Waite, Mary Johnson, Hannah Winter, Joanna Russell (Philip's wife), Jemina, Samuel, and Phebe. He wrote: "This list includes two children of my wife, formerly wife of Thomas King." The Mary here alluded to was born 2 Feb. 1643, and married 19 Oct. 1659 John Johnson. Richard Park's wife Sarah and John Johnson's wife Mary were daughters of his second wife by her previous marriage. James Cutler's name is found among those who subscribed to the building of the first meeting-house in Lexington, 1692.

4. JOHN2 CUTLER (James1) born 19 Mar. 1663, died 21 Sept. 1714.
In 1711, he was a subscriber to buy land near the meeting-house for a public common. As early as 1693, his name appears on the tax list for the payment of the minister's salary. He resided on present Weston Street, over the brook, on the southerly side of the old Concord turnpike. In 1714, John Merriam and Matthew Bridge were appointed a committee to lay a road to accommodate Nathaniel Stone, Joseph Stone, Robert Merriam and John Cutler; and the description of the road left no doubt of the general situation of John Cutler's house. From Nathaniel Stone's house it ran by various bounds to the "great rock," and thence, across the brook, to Cut- ler's house.
He married 1 Jan. 1694 MARY STEARNS, born 8 Oct. 1663, died 24 Feb. 1733, daughter of Isaac2 and Sarah (Beers).

He married 6 Feb. 1700 HANNAH SNOW, born at Woburn, 6 June 1677, daughter of John and Hannah (Green). They moved to Kil- lingly, Conn., about 1713. She presumably married secondly 2 Nov. 1736 Eleazer Bateman of Killingly, Conn.

6. THOMAS3 CUTLER (James,2 James1), born 15 Dec. 1677, died at Warren 23 Dec. 1759. He was constable 1719 and selectman 1729, '31, '33, '34. Shortly after his second marriage he moved to Western now Warren.
He married first SARAH STONE, born 26 June 1681, died 10 Jan. 1749-50, daughter of Samuel3 and Dorcas (Jones); she joined the church 4 July 1708; secondly 10 Apr. 1751 MRS. LYDIA (BOWMAN) SIMONDS, daughter of Francis3 and Lydia (Stone) Bowman and widow of Jonathan3 Simonds.

He married at Watertown MRS. ABIGAIL (MERRIAM) STONE, daughter of Robert3 and Abigail (Cutler) Merriam and widow of Nathaniel4 Stone. They moved to Brookfield and were dismissed to the church there 10 May 1752.

Stoughton records show the intention of marriage between John Tolman and Abigail Cutler 25 July 1747. To William Shepard (d. 26 Mar. 1819) and wife Elizabeth are born two children. Stephen Wentworth and Abigail Tolman were married 11 Dec. 1770 and had five children b. at Stoughton.
