HISTORY OF LEXINGTON

OVERING

JOHN OVERING of Boston bought of William Russell of Lexing- ton, for £308, in 1729, a tract of fifty-one acres, with buildings thereon, bounded on land of Jason and Philip Russell and Joseph Mason. In 1735, and 1737, he sold lands to Deacon Joseph Brown, and in 1738 he bought lands in Lexington of David Comee. John Overing the second of Lexington was a son - presumably - of John Overing, Esq., of Boston, and came to Lexington, probably, about 1730. He was a man of some property, and in 1735 was taxed in town for three houses, two slaves, three cows, and two horses, besides other personal and real estate. He left town possibly about 1740. There is a record of the death of three of this name, but their identity is uncertain.
