JAMES1 MANN of Lexington died at Mason, N. H., about 1780 or 1781. He was brought up by Richard Armes of Lexington, who in his will, dated 25 Dec. 1755, leaves him a legacy of £40 "if he should return from the wars." In 1756-57 he petitioned the General Court "setting forth that he was in the two Expeditions against Crown Point in 1755 and 1756." He was taxed in 1738 for both real and personal estate, and his name appears on the tax bill for a number of years. He was a soldier from Lexington in the French War in 1759 and 1760.


He married at Watertown MARY SIMONDS, born 10 Mar. 1717- 18, died at Mason, N. H., about 1781, daughter of Daniel3 and Abigail (Smith).

HISTORY OF LEXINGTON


1703, died at Watertown 14 Nov. 1747, son of Edward, born 2 Aug. 1670, and grandson of John and Abigail ( ). His mother was Hannah Bradish of Cambridge, who died 9 Apr. 1754 in her 85th year. The ancestor, Thomas Marrett, came from England about 1635 and settled at Cambridge.


His will was dated 9 Sept. 1747, probated 23 Nov. 1747.


He married 21 Sept. 1732 MARY DUNSTER, born 7 July 1712, died at Mason, N. H., 29 June 1795, daughter of Henry and Martha3 (Russell) of Cambridge.

He was an accomplished scholar and antiquarian. The History of Woburn is the best known of his historical works.


2. AMOS5 MARRETT (Amos,4 Edward,3 John,2 Thomas1), born 4 Feb. 1738-39, died 28 Mar. 1805, g. s.


He probably resided some years after his marriage at Cambridge and then moved to Lexington where he and his wife were admitted to the church 15 Sept. 1771, by letter of dismission from the First Church of Cambridge. He was a soldier in Capt. Parker's company in 1775, and served in the army in the Jerseys the following year. He enlisted later for three years, or during the war, and served in the Continental line. He was selectman in 1785, '86, '89, '91. His will was dated 20 Mar. 1805, probated 14 May 1805.
