3. MATTHEW3 BRIDGE (Matthew,2 John1), born at Cambridge 5 May 1650, died 29 May 1738, g. s.
He signed a petition in Oct. 1692, to the General Court, to have Lexington set off as a distinct parish. The petition was not granted. After the incorporation of the town in 1713, he held the office of first selectman, was town treasurer from 1713-1717, clerk, and was reelected. He rendered military service in King Philip's War, 1675, and served in the ill-fated expedition to Quebec in 1690. In his will, dated 7 May 1730 and proved 10 July 1738, mention is made of sons Matthew, Joseph, John and Samuel, daughters Abigail Whitney, Martha and Elizabeth Bridge, children of Anna Watson, and grandson William Russell, and he remembered the Lexington church.

At a meeting of the citizens of Lexington, held 18 Mar. 1776, Capt. John Bridge was chosen a member of the Committee of Cor- respondence and Safety. He was one of the signers of a document of date 1776, which declared that "before God and the world " they would be true to the cause of liberty and to each other. He was a soldier under Capt. Blodgett in a company which marched to the relief of Fort William Henry, 1757, and several times called into service during the Revolutionary War. He was a member of Capt. Parker's company, 1775, and was at the battle of Bunker Hill, and rose to the rank of major in the militia; assessor 1778, '90, '91; also for many years a magistrate and justice of the peace.
He married first 14 Apr. 1761 HANNAH REED, born 21 Oct. 1740, died 26 Oct. 1782, daughter of William4 and Sarah (Poulter); secondly 13 July 1786 MARY MOORE, who died 1 Apr. 1788.

WILLIAM2 BRIGHAM (Elijah1) was born at Waltham 27 Mar. 1805, died at Boston 21 May 1879, son of Elijalı and Mary (Gleason). He was a direct descendant of John Brigham, the second son of Thomas who came to this country in 1635, in the ship Susan and Ellyn and settled at Watertown.
He became a resident of Lexington in 1830 and was a deacon in the First Parish church.
He married 4 Aug. 1835 ABBY ANN MUZZEY, born at Sullivan, N. H., 15 June 1806, died 7 Aug. 1870, daughter of Rev. William6 and Anna (Munroe).

BROWN
1. JOSEPH2 BROWN (John1) was born at Marlboro 1677, died at Lexington 11 Jan. 1764, g. s. He was the youngest of the eleven children of John, born in England 1631, and Esther or Hester (Makepeace) of Boston.
He settled at Watertown Farms, now Weston, sold a place there in 1709 and moved soon afterwards to Lexington. He and his wife were admitted to the church at Lexington 31 May 1713. He was chosen deacon in 1727, and held the office until he died. At Water- town he was constable, selectman, and town clerk; at Lexington, selectman 1722, '24, '25, '27, and assessor 1714, '15, '21, '22, '26. His will was dated 22 Nov. 1757, probated 6 Feb. 1764.
He married at Watertown, 15 Nov. 1699, RUHAMAH WELLINGTON, died 1 July 1772, aged 92, daughter of Benjamin2 and Elizabeth (Sweetman).
