HISTORY OF LEXINGTON

He was a member of the Ancient and Honorable Artillery Com- pany, 1643, and came to Cambridge Farms about that time, where his father owned lands on Vine Brook. These lands were cultivated enough to have the grass cut by 1643. He was here when the parish was organized in 1692, subscribed towards the erection of the first meeting-house, and shared in the first parish tax, 1693. He was a large landowner, and although quite advanced in age at the time (1698) was appointed one of the committee to wait upon the Rev. Mr. Hancock, in order to make the necessary arrangements for his ordination. As a mark of distinction, by order of the parish, he was seated at the table in the meeting-house.
He married about 1643-44 ANNE DANFORTH, died 9 Dec. 1704, daughter of Nicholas, who was formerly of Framlingham, Suffolk Co., England. Her mother was Elizabeth Symmes.
