HISTORY OF LEXINGTON

3. SAMUEL2 STONE (Gregory1), baptized at Nayland, England, 4 Feb. 1630-31, died 27 Sept. 1715, g. s.

He was made freeman at Cambridge in 1657. It is probable that Samuel Stone, with his brother David, came to Cambridge Farms in the years that they were married; viz., 1648 and 1655. Samuel settled on his father's large tract about a mile easterly of his brother David, and near what is now the junction of Lincoln and Weston streets. In 1682 he, with others, petitioned the General Court for an act to create the Farms a distinct parish. He was a subscriber toward the first meeting-house in 1691. His tax-bill for 1692-93 was the highest paid, showing that he owned a large amount of landed property. In 1692 he, with one other, was chosen to approach Rev.
