WELLINGTON
The name of Wellington first appeared on the records in 1705 and the members of that family have been quite numerous here. They came from Watertown to Cambridge Farms and settled in the southeasterly part near the Watertown and Waltham lines. As some portion of the family were frequently moving across the lines it is rather difficult to trace the Lexington members.
1. ROGER1 WELLINGTON was born about 1609 or '10, died 11 Mar. 1697-98. He was one of the early proprietors and planters of Watertown and probably came there from Boston, since the Boston records contain the names of several of his children. He appeared at Watertown about 1642 but did not become freeman until 18 Apr. 1690. He was selectman of Watertown 1678-79, '81-84, '91. In his will he mentions sons John, Joseph, Benjamin, Oliver and Palgrave.
