1. ISAAC1 STEARNS, date of birth unknown, died 19 June 1671. He came to this country in 1630, probably in the same ship with Gov. Winthrop and Richard Saltonstall and settled at Watertown, near Mount Auburn. He was a selectman for several years; and in his will dated 14 June 1671 he said, "My will if that my kindfman, Charls Steerns fhall have ten pounds of my eftat."


He married in England, 1622, MARY BARKER, died 2 Apr. 1677, daughter of John and Margaret ( ) of Stoke, Nayland, Suffolk Co., England.

He was in the precinct at its organization, and was taxed in 1694; subscribed toward the Common 1711; was an assessor 1711, '13, '17, and tythingman 1718.


He married PHEBE ( ). His widow settled his estate and afterwards moved to Littleton in 1730, with a number of her child- ren. Was cautioned at Chelmsford 24 July 1750.

town. His mother was Elizabeth Childs, born 18 Feb. 1706-07, daughter of Daniel and Beriah (Bemis).


He moved to Lexington in 1768, was in Capt. Parker's company 1775, and went with a detachment of it to Cambridge 17 and 18 July 1775. He was one of the largest subscribers towards the eighth campaign to the Jerseys 1776 and he, with others, sent a man to the eleventh campaign to Bennington in 1777. He was selectman 1781-82.


He married MARY WELLINGTON, born 29 Nov. 1742, died 13 Feb. 1790, g. s. at Waltham, daughter of Joseph4 and Dorcas (Stone).

1. CHARLES' STEARNS of Watertown was admitted freeman 6 May 1646, was a kinsman of Isaac Stearns and mentioned in his will 1671. He was elected constable at Watertown, 1680, and de- elined to serve. It is supposed that after this he moved with his son Shubal to Lynn End, the town of Lynnfield.


He married first HANNAH ( ), died at Watertown 30 June 1651; secondly 22 June 1654 REBECCA GIBSON, daughter of John and Rebecca ( ).

CALEB6 STETSON (Thomas, 5 Elisha,4 Elisha,8 Thomas, 2 Robert1) was born at Kingston 12 July 1793, died 17 May 1870, third son of Thomas, born at Kingston 9 Mar. 1752, and grandson of Elisha and Sarah (Adams). His mother was Elizabeth Cook, born at Kingston 9 Aug. 1755, daughter of Benjamin and Mary (Gray). He was descended from Robert Stetson, Cornet of Horse, who came from England and settled at Scituate.


He graduated from Harvard 1822, and Harvard Divinity School 1827, and settled at Medford 28 Feb. 1827. Later settled at South Scituate, and came to Lexington in 1860 to reside in the old home- stead of his father-in-law. He was principal of an academy at Lexington 1822-25, and served on the school committee 1860-61.


He married 22 Aug. 1827 JULIA ANN MERIAM, born 12 Oct. 1804, died 24 Aug. 1889, daughter of Rufus6 and Martha (Si- monds).

He is descended from Cyprian Stevens, who came from England and settled at Chelsea, then called Rumney Marsh.


He graduated from Harvard, A.B., 1893. He became a resident of Lexington in the spring of 1896.
