CORRECTIONS AND ADDITIONS TO THE HISTORY OF LEXINGTON BI-CENTENNIAL EDITION
A WORD OF APPRECIATION
The "Introductory Note " in Vol. I, written by Mr. James P. Munroe, chairman of the Committee on Revision of the History, naturally fails to acknowledge the valu- able service performed by Mr. Munroe, who, in addition to his other labors on the Committee, made the entire revision of Vol. I, with such assistance as noted therein.
Regretting that proper recognition of Mr. Munroe's services is not expressed in the History, Lexington Historical Society voted to have some expression of its gratitude incorporated with the "Corrections and Additions" to be published later.
The following, written by another member of the Committee, is taken from the final report of the Committee on Revision of the History as adopted by the Society: "The Society is under special obligation to Mr. Munroe for a service which no other person could have rendered so well, for in him are combined familiarity with history, both general and local, and sound judgement regarding both the elimination of the less important matter from the first edition of Hudson's History and the literary ability to execute his work with rare excellence. In addition to these quali -. fications, Mr. Munroe possesses a civic pride, which many times has prompted valuable and unselfish service for the public good and by which he makes us all his debtors."
