He gave to his wife "All my How'e-hold-Goods to be hers forever. and the Uie & Improvement of the Weft lower Room & Chamber in my own Dwelling Houfe, with the Cellar under the Same, with Liberty of ufing the oven in the other part of the Houfe, as al'o of Paising to the well, into the Cham- bez. & Cellar, &c and Likewife the ufe of the Houfe yards for wood &c As there Shall be Occaision in Common with the Heirs or Pof- seisors of the other Part of the Houle. So long as she Shall Re- main my widow, & no longer. Also my will is, and I Do Order that my Son Solomon his Heirs &c Shall keep one Good Cow for the Sole Tie of Mary my wife, that he Provide her four butbels of Indian Corn. 22. CURTIS7 CUTLER (Nathaniel,6 Thomas,5 David,4 Thomas,3 James,2 James1), born 1 Jan. 1806, died at Cambridge 13 Oct. 1874.
Graduated from Harvard in 1829, studied theology, and was set- tled 30 Oct. 1833, at Gardner. He left Gardner in 1839, and was in- stalled at Peterboro, N. H., 30 Jan. 1840, as colleague with Abiel Abbott, D.D. He left Peterboro in 1848, and moved to Lexington. In 1855, he represented the town in the General Court, and the autumn of the same year, moved to Cambridge .*
He married 19 May 1835 CLARISSA W. MORELL, born 18 Mar. 1808, died 3 Oct. 1902, daughter of Ambrose1 and Sarah (Holbrook). Children:

He graduated from the Lexington High School in 1864. He is a fruit canner, principally, and is a director of various companies. He was a private in Co. B, 6th Mass. Inf'y, 17 July 1864 to 27 Oct. 1864; lieutenant, major, lieutenant-colonel, colonel National Guard, Cal., 1886 to 1895 inclusive; Chief of Police, San Francisco, 1908,

police commissioner, 1907-09; Vice President General, Sons Ameri- can Revolution, 1904; President Cal. Society Sons American Revo- lution, 1904. During the fire, following the earthquake at San Fran- cisco, 18 Apr. 1906, he was ordered by the mayor to organize a special police force of 1000 men to take charge of the unburned por- tion of the city. The force was enrolled, sworn in, and placed on duty within thirty-six hours after orders were received and remained April 20-26, 1906; the burned portion being meanwhile in charge of the regular San Francisco police, the Cal. National Guard, and U.S. troops. He resided in Lexington from 1848 to 1877 except 1870-72. .
He married 22 May 1870 EMMA ISADORA PEIRCE, born 7 July 1847, daughter of Nathaniel8 and Abigail (Wellington).

1. JOHN4 CUTTER (Ephraim,3 Richard,2 Elizabeth1) was born at Watertown 23 July 1700, died 20 Nov. 1747, g. s., son of Ephraim of Cambridge, Charlestown, Watertown, and East Jersey, and grand- son of Richard, who came to Cambridge from Newcastle-upon- Tyne, England, died 18 June 1693, aged about 72, and Elizabeth Williams, died 5 Mar. 1661-62, aged 42, daughter of Robert and Elizabeth (Stalham). His mother, Bethia Wood, was born 28 July

1660, died at Watertown 18 Sept. 1731, in her 72d year, daughter of Nicholas and Mary (Williams). His great-grandmother, Elizabeth, came to New England as a widow about 1640, died at Cambridge 10 Jan. 1663-64, aged about 89.
He was a glazier, and from 1724 to 1734 resided at Woburn. Pre- viously in 1722, he had bought an estate in Woburn of Elizabeth Richardson, administratrix. He appears to have mended the meet- ing-house glass in various towns and his estate was inventoried after his death at £308.
He married about 1723 RACHEL POULTER, born 11 May 1702, died at Temple, N. H., about 1795, daughter of Jonathan3 and Eliz- abeth ( ), and granddaughter of John and Rachel (Eliot). She owned the covenant in Lexington church in order that her child be baptized 19 July 1724. After her husband's death she moved to Woburn and was admitted to the church there 19 Nov. 1756. She married secondly Barnabas Davis, previously of Littleton, and moved with him to New Ipswich, N. H., to dwell with her eldest son, about 1763. After the son's death in 1771, the old couple with Rachel Cutter, a daughter, resided for a time with Joseph Cutter a grandson.
Children, first five born at Woburn, the others at Lexington:
i. RACHEL,6 b. 9 May 1724, bapt. at Lexington 19 July 1724; d. unm. at Temple, N. H., 1799. She was elected school-teacher at Temple, 18 Mar. 1791. 14 Apr. 1796, the Temple selectmen were notified that Rachel Cutter had removed from New Ipswich to that town 15 Dec. 1795. (? After the death of her mother.)
ii. JOHN, b. 9 Jan. 1726-27, d. at New Ipswich, N. H., 27 Sept. 1771. Here- sided at Waltham, Lexington, Shrewsbury, and at New Ipswich, N. H., where he settled about 1767. He m. 16 Nov. 1749 SUSANNA HASTINGS, daughter of Joseph and Lydia (Brown) of Waltham, b. 26 May 1731, d. at Jaffrey, N. H., 5 Aug. 1827, she m. (2) Simeon Gould. Two of the children of this John Cutter were reported as being born at Lexington, but there is no record of them, viz .: John,6 b. 25 Aug. 1750; twice mar- ried; a soldier in active service in the Revolutionary War and one of the principal citizens of New Ipswich, where he died 1 May 1812. Joseph, b. 13 May 1752, d. at Jaffrey, N. H., 25 June 1840; m. 5 Dec. 1776 Rachel Hobart; he was a farmer and a Revolutionary soldier.
iii. JONATHAN, b. 2 Mar. 1728-29; d. Jan. 1755; m. at Watertown, 12 Dec. 1751, ELIZABETH HASTINGS, a sister of the wife of his brother John. She was b. 10 Oct. 1734, owned the covenant with her husband in the Lex. church, 6 Sept. 1752, and died early in life. His brother David Cutter was appointed administrator of his estate, 13 Jan. 1755, and rendered an account, 10 Jan. 1757. Children: i. Jonathan,6 bapt. Lex. 22 Oct. 1752; d. soon. ii. Betsey, bapt. Menotomy 27 Jan. 1754; m. James Philbrook of Rindge, N. H.
iv. DAVID, b. 4 Dec. 1730; d. about 1760; m. (published 5 Mar. 1755) MARY DIx of Boston. In 1758 Medford cautioned against David Cutter and Mary his wife, and their child, last from Woburn; and Woburn cautioned against David, wife, and family, last from Medford, 1758. The wife and children appear to have become residents afterwards of Woburn, for she joined the church there, 27 Jan. 1760, and was living in the church

relation there in 1793. On 10 Sept. 1760, she was appointed adminis- tratrix of David's estate. Children: Mary 6 and Sophia, both bapt. at Woburn, 29 Mar. 1761.
