He is a Free Mason. He came to Lexington to reside in 1884.


He married first MIRIAM A. TEMPLE, born at Shrewsbury 26 Nov. 1851, died 29 July 1896, daughter of Luther H. and Royan (Harrington); secondly at Malden, 19 Mar. 1902, CAROLINE AUGUSTA HUTCHINS, born at Boston, daughter of Freeman and Margaret (Armstrong).

He married 30 Nov. 1826 RUHAMAH WEBBER, born at Bedford 14 Apr. 1802, died 31 Aug. 1879, daughter of Asa and Eliot (Lane). They resided at Concord and came to Lexington about 1839.

1. THOMAS1 HASTINGS was born in England in 1605, died at Watertown 1685.


He embarked for this country in the Elizabeth 10 Apr. 1634, from Ipswich, England, and settled at Watertown, where he was admitted freeman 6 May 1635. He was selectman from 1638 to 1643, and again from 1650 to 1671; clerk three years and represent- ative in 1671. He also held the office of deacon. His will was dated 12 Mar. 1685, proved 7 Sept. 1685.


He married first in England SUSANNA ( ), born about 1610, died 2 Feb. 1650; secondly Apr. 1651 MARGARET CHENEY of Rox- bury.
