He was selectman in 1785 and '92; belonged to Capt. Parker's company 1775, and was at the taking of Burgoyne 1777; he was named in 1781 on the Committee of Correspondence as bearing the title of lieutenant. It was he who claimed the honor of being the first prisoner taken in the American Revolution. It is said he was the first man to carry milk as far as Boston.

He was assessor 1852-54 and treasurer in 1855. He left Lexington in 1856 and took up his residence at Cambridge. He did much to relieve the wants of the soldiers during the Civil War and in the winter of 1863-64 visited New Orleans as agent from Massachu- setts.
He married first 17 Oct. 1839 HARRIET ELIZA BOSWORTH, born in R. I. 1819, died at Cambridge 16 Jan. 1882, daughter of Nathaniel and Lucy ( ); secondly 19 June 1885 MRS. AUGUSTA TUFTS (FISKE) WELLINGTON, widow of his brother Timothy.

(2) 29 Nov. 1887 SARAH CORDELIA FISHER, b. at Cambridge, sister of his first wife; d. at Cambridge 18 Sept. 1888. He enlisted in the 38th Mass. Inf'y and was detailed as acting adjutant, which position he held until the close of the war.
ii. HOMER, b. 25 Dec. 1850; m. 22 Oct. 1874 ELLEN ISABEL BOYNTON, d. at Cambridge, dau. of Morris B. and Sarah B. ( ); d. at Boston 4 July 1905. They had two children.
21. HORATIO7 WELLINGTON* (Nehemiah,6 Timothy,5 Timothy, 4 Benjamin,3 Benjamin,2 Roger1), born 6 Sept. 1817, died at Charles- town 25 Mar. 1894. He represented the First Middlesex District in the legislature of 1863 and '64.
He married 16 Dec. 1841 MARY BOWMAN TEEL, born 13 Sept. 1818, died 25 Feb. 1900, daughter of Amos and Hannah3 (Viles) of Charlestown. They moved to Charlestown in 1850.

ii. ARTHUR N., b. 1 Mar. 1845; m. SUSIE A. BRADLEY of Charlestown, d. at Boston 4 May 1866. They had one daughter. He enlisted at the age of 17 in the 13th Mass. Reg't., and was later discharged for disability; reënlisted in the 36th, was imprisoned, paroled and again discharged for disability.
iii. ALFRED H., b. 25 May 1848; m. 28 Nov. 1869 MARIA ISABEL DENNING; d. at Somerville 18 Jan. 1903. He had one daughter.
iv. JONAS FRANCIS, b. 20 Nov. 1849; m. 1875 CHARLOTTE A. HUNNEWELL, dau. of Edwin and Sarah A. (Cutter). He was admitted to his father's firm 1884; moved to Somerville in 1876; Tufts conferred A.M. in 1904.
v. MARY ISABEL, b. 14 Mar. 1852; m. 15 Oct. 1874 HENRY A. GOODING of Charlestown, d. 30 Dec. 1885. They had four children.
