He has published several books and is a contributor to the publications of the Society for Ethical Culture of which he is asso- ciate leader. He resides at New York.

GENEALOGIES


In 1724 he was chosen to a subordinate town office which shows he was an inhabitant of Lexington at that time; in 1730 he had a seat assigned to him in the meeting-house, and in 1743 he was con- stable. He resided on the road to Concord above the old Viles Tavern, near what was then the line of Concord. When the town of Lincoln was created in 1754 he and others were taken from Lex- ington to constitute that town.


He married at Charlestown, 19 Mar. 1715-16, TABITHA HOBBS, died 30 May 1767, in her 83d year, g. s., daughter of Josiah* and Mary ( ). She was admitted to the church 10 June 1722.

* He was returning from the West in an enfeebled condition, having in his possession con- siderable money. A stranger ingratiated himself into his favor, and when the cars arrived at Al- toona, in the night time, he induced Norcross to leave the train, and enticed him to a secluded place, and then murdered him. The assailant was later arrested, tried, and executed.

His mother, Sophia Wright, was born at Plymouth, N. H., 12 Nov. 1799, daugh- ter of Wincol and Lydia (Pollard). He is descended from Nicholas Norris who came from Ireland and settled at Hampton, N. H.


He married ADELINE ELIZABETH KENYON, born at Plainfield, N. H., 1841, daughter of Mumford Hayes and Betsey (French).

He became a resident of Lexington in Mar. 1872. He enlisted 19 Sept. 1862 in Company A, 47th Infantry, discharged 1 Sept. 1863 by reason of expiration of service. He has been a contractor and builder, and is a trustee of the Lexington Savings Bank.


He married first at Orford, N. H., 15 Nov. 1864, MARTHA EVANS, born at Orford, N. H., 8 May 1842, died 15 Feb. 1902, daughter of Almon and Maria (Dana); secondly at Springfield, 1 June 1903, BERTHA BELLE HAMMOND, born at Barnard, Vt., 28 Oct. 1863, daughter of George Clinton and Mary Adelaide (Swift).
