LAWRENCE
The Lawrences were for a considerable period among the promi- nent citizens at Lexington, the name appearing on the records as early as 1693. They were descendants of John1 Lawrence of Wisset, England, who was an early settler at Watertown. The family dates back to 1190, beginning with Sir Robert Lawrence, whose immediate descendants married into the family of Washington, his grandson marrying Matilda, daughter of John de Washington.
JOHN1 LAWRENCE was probably at Watertown as early as 1635 as his eldest child was born there 14 Mar. 1636. By his first wife ELIZABETH ( ) he had thirteen children; and by his second, SUSANNA BATCHELDER, two.
