He was principal of the high school at Chicopee from 1856 to 1865. In 1874 he was state representa- tive; state senator, 1876; representative in the Forty-fifth, Forty- sixth and Forty-seventh congresses; elected Governor of Massa- chusetts in 1883 and served three years. He was admitted to the bar at Cambridge in March 1866, and engaged in the practice of law at Chicopee. After ten years of public life he resumed the prac- tice of his profession at Springfield with his son who was afterwards his partner.

SIMON WIGGIN3 ROBINSON (Noah,2 Jonathan1) was born at New Hampton, N. H., 19 Feb. 1792, died 16 Oct. 1868, fourth son of Capt. Noah and his first wife, Nancy (Wiggin).
He came to Boston in 1813, remained in business there thirty- four years, and in 1847 came to Lexington. He was elected to the legislature while a resident of Boston, and represented the town of Lexington in that body. He held a commission as justice of the peace for many years, and was a 33° Mason. He was at Cambridge Farms at the organization of the parish in 1692, the largest subscriber for the meeting-house, and one of the original members of the church in 1696; his wife removed her relation from the church in Cambridge to that of Lexington soon afterwards. "He was a man of wealth, an active and valuable citizen, and filled various offices under the parish and town organization."
He married ELIZABETH FISKE, baptized before 1658, daughter of David2 and Lydia (Cooper).

5. PHILIP2 RUSSELL (William1), died 7 Feb. 1730-31, aged 80.
His name is on the earliest records of the parish and town, and though residing in the precinct he was selectman at Old Cambridge in the years 1700-01. He subscribed for the meeting-house at the Farms in 1692 and was on the committee to "seat" the meeting- house when it was completed.
He married first 19 June 1680 JOANNA CUTLER, who died 26 Nov. 1703, aged 42, g. s., daughter of James1 and Mary (King); secondly at Cambridge, 18 Oct. 1705, SARAH BROOKS of Medford, born at Concord 16 Dec. 1668, died at Middleton 9 Mar. 1748, daughter of Caleb and Susanna (Atkinson) of Medford.
