MOSES LEVY DIES AT AGE OF 81; MERCHANT IN CITY FORTY YEARS

Moses Levy. 81 years old, president of the Levy-Wolf Dry Goods com- pany, and a merchant in Springfield for 40 years, died at 12:15 o'clock this morning at his home, 709 East Wal- nut street, following an Illness of two weeks.
Mr. Levy's death followed his re- tirement from active charge of hla business on the public square two weeks ago. ·
He la survived by two daughters one son, four granddaughters and one grandson. The daughters ere Hra Della LeBolt and Miss Tem Levy. who reside at. the family home on Walnut street. The' son is Irving Levy, . ready-to-wear merchant of Cedar Rapids, Is. The granddaugh- ters are Miss Esther O. LeBolt and Misa Mildred LeBolt, both of whom remide at the Walnut street address. and Jane Harriett Levy and Maxine Levy, daughters of Living Levy. The grandson is David LeBolt of Freder- Icksburg, Va.

Mar. Lavy arrived In 'Bpringheld In September. 1888,4 and opened & dry rooli ftore to the northeast ' corner of the square at the location; now occupied by ' Reps. The building comprised two floors and a $25,000 stock of goods was carried. The store W& kDown as "The Model," a name Which is well known today through- out southwest Mimourt, although it was discarded years ago by Mr. Levy when the Levy-Wolf Dry Goods com- pany was organized.
The store occupied the original lo- cation for a few months more than eight years and then wu moved to the present location at 110 'Publie Square. The stock of goods was en- larged extensively and three entire floors were necessary to accommo- date the business.
Early in 1993 fire damaged the stock of goods and building more than $100,000, necessitaling & new buliding.
In January. 1914, when the Levy- Wolf Dry Goods company was in- corporated Mr. Levy was elected president. Other officers are Ignace Glaser, vice president, and Sol R. Wolf, secretary and Ireaaurer.
Through the keen business percep- 'tlon of Mr. Lavy the firm enjoyed an unusual prosperity .. which has been advantageous lo customers of the store ma well.

A very pretty wedding was aol- emnized Saturday night at eight o'clock when Mira. Alma Hawks. daughter of Mr. and Mrs. William Osman, :32 South Douglas, became the bride of Mr. Neal O. Garner of St. Louis. ' The' ceremony was per- formed at the home of the bride'a parente. with Dr. J. T. Bacon as officiating clergyman. Miss Cath- erine Stevens attended the bride as mald of honor, while Mr. George Flummertelt acted as best man.
The bride wore a gown of powder blue romaine crepe over satin and carried a shower bouquet of white roses and ralley Illies. The maid of honor wore ashes of roses georgette over satin and carried sweet peas. The single ring ceremony was read before an Improvised alter of ferns. *W. H. Preston, 82. Greene county pio- neer'and Union veterao, died at his home In Rogersvine at @ o'clock last night. after a long Illness. Hr. Preston was born in Tennessee, and came to Greens county as a boy of 20. He was a member of the Twenty-Third Missouri regiment during the Civil war. Many years ago be was in the meat business in Springfield. and .later, for the greater part of his Ilfe. was & farmer and carpenter near Spring- field. He moved to Rogersvllje a few years ago. He is survived by his wife, four sons, George 11. Preston, Long Beach, Cal., Thomas Preston. now living In Mississippi. Walter Preston, lo Alabama, and Marion Alonzo Preston, Springfield, Mo., and one daughter, Mru. H. E. Banning. Spring field. Mo. Funeral arrangemente were in- complete last night, but burial will be in the National cemetery under the direction of J. W. Klingner.
